Someone replied with this

Brian Peters: I have it from a reliable source that the park will be open for free to all guests who obtain a voucher. It is to test their new quick queue system that has been rumoured before but now is in place. Hope this helps.

Interesting. I wonder how much truth is in this? Would they really open the park for 1 day just to test out a new system? Surely I wouldn't be cost effective though? And they couldn't get all the rides open as they would be doing their winter works and they wouldn't have any of the seasonal staff to run the park.

Could be that there finally realising details about whats happening this year... why we should be free this weekend, I have no idea, perhaps a competition or something?

I doubt it's a free entry to park day... think about it, they would lose so much money in ride costs and staffing costs.

Perhaps Steak house opens this weekend?

This was also posted on AT's wall earlier today...
Announcement: Alton Towers Resort astonishingly fantastical never to be repeated hotel deal - coming soon only to Facebook fans.

Surely this has something to do with it? Hotel discount / event this weekend? :?

A quick queue system sounds like it's come from "a source" in The Sun.

They may choose to open ONE ride to test any new system but I cannot see even that happening. Just think logically, how could they have come up with and implement a new queuing system in two months?

We'll see but I think we'll be disappointed!

It's to do with the above mentioned hotel deal. Simple as.

In previous years resort hotel rooms have been sold for as little as £10 per room per night (excluding breakfast) on Lastminute.com, so expect something similar (i.e rock bottom hotel rate) tomorrow at 10am for stays at the resort next weekend.

Hmm, I can't see them pushing the hotel offering during closed season when the waterpark is still closed for maintenance? :?

Rock-bottom hotel deal seems most likely to me. However, just to pick up on one thing:

Quite easily. There are plenty of queueing systems out there, new to Alton Towers, that could be implemented fairly quickly - Q-Bot, for instance.

Having said that, seems like Sun speculation to me also. Hotel I reckon.

I dunno - it's not like there's much other than a £10-type offer that'd pull in the punters right now, what with everything closed...

The return of £10 rooms? I remember the awesome 1st December 2007 overnight stay!

If so, I will be there!

Sounds quite exciting. Wouldn't say no to a £10 room to be honest! :)

This sounds rather good, but it'll most likely be the discounted Hotel stays. But what would you do when you're there? The waterpark's having it's annual clean-up.

It was 2006 Dan. :D

Also, the FB page suggests 'Next weekend' not This weekend. :?:

Be interesting to see what the offer is. Maybe one of those quickfire sales or something offering dirt cheap rooms?

Well if it's a really cheap price, then I suppose it's a good little weekend away just to relax and get away from it all.

I look forward to eeing what it is.

Are we presuming that the guy saying the park will be open is just trolling?

I have not heard a single word about any sort of new queue system...

yeah I suspect he is trolling.

If they do go back to the £10 offer (christ was it really 2006?!?!) Id hope they manage the gardens and towers tours again.

Id like to book, a nice night away for a tenner, win! I hope its not just limited to that one weekend though.
