Announcement: Alton Towers Resort astonishingly fantastical never to be repeated hotel deal - coming soon only to Facebook fans.

That makes it sound like it will be free, or some variation on free. They wouldn't say "never to be repeated" and "astonishingly" (note: NOT ACTUALLY A WORD) if it was just a standard £10 room closed season deal they've done before.

Also checked out the FB page of the guy who said that they're opening the park... no mutual friends, and no indication he's an enthusiast. :?

Maybe with all the animosity over the Merlin Annual Pass, Alton Towers are heavily discounting the cost of a Towers pass?

Just a thought?

I did wonder if they would be running a promotion similar to Thorpe Park with the 2for1 passes, but then again it states 'keep next weekend free' & 'hotel deal'

I suppose it does say event too, several times actually.

It's too close to next weekend to be anything major, or have a major act on etc. Maybe it's a small scale park viewing or something similiar? I guess we'll find out in 9 hours.

Looks like we got a bit carried away there hoping for some amazingly cheap room deal :P

Oh well, still no doubt it will appeal to some, as it is quite a good discount for the package.

The above package is £69 based on 2 people, so, whilst it may not be everyones cup of tea, and not what many were expecting, it really isn't a bad deal for what you get.

Evidently though, something else that was hyped up to be something absolutely fantastic when it wasn't.

Oh dear.
Perhaps advertising it out to health spa fans may have stopped the frenzy of people expecting something that the AT of late were never going to deliver.

Hmm people do seem to have got their expectations a little to high. In fact this is a good deal really with a significant room discount.

Yet again, towers over hype and market something and it turns out to be a complete let down.

Maybe everyone did get carried away, but what do you expect with a build of status's to it with some pretty hyped up backing.

I think a lot of people would of booked a £10 room, as it is a good deal. I wasn't expecting a deal that good, but this one just sucks.

Take away the hype and bull that this is, Then yes maybe it is a good deal for a pimped up travel lodge, along with a swimming pool and a little foot spa.

Is it me, or do you think Taaj from come fly with me would make a good reader for this topic?

Whilst I'm sure this deal will never be repeated, they're constantly lowering the prices of all their winter breaks closer to the date atm, happened a lot with the Santa/Festive breaks before Christmas.

And here's us thinking they might do something extra special rather than another reduced short break. Not the worst deal in the world though...

Thom...

PS - Are we sure the £69 price includes VAT? ATM I wouldn't trust a price from Alton unless it states in includes VAT! :P

Advising people to cancel their pans for next weekend (I'm not suggesting anyone seriously did that) and saying it's never to be repeated etc. was very misleading, in my view.

I wasn't around here or even back into theme parks at the time of all the pre-Thirteen marketing, so this is my first taste of such anti-climaxes.

Wait so they post it's about the hotels and next weekend and now everyone is disappointed when it turns out to be a hotel offer related to next weekend?

I'm surprised how hyped this managed to get.

When I last logged on yesterday this topic didn't even exist. Alton makes a few obvious marketing statements (on their faffbook page of all places) and everyone expects the deal of the century.

This was even more obvious marketing than the Th13teen hype and yet will still listening to it. Why?

If this had been the £10 deal everyone was expecting they wouldn’t have given it the marketing fan fare. A really good deal sells itself.

The only reason it is a let down is because it doesn't fit in with what you were expecting.

On the whole, the deal isn't that bad, at around £35 per person based on 2 sharing, you do get quite a bit. It isn't everyones cup of tea, and not something I am interested in personally, so whilst I am dissapointed that it isn't something that appeals to me, it will appeal to others. Also, the first 20 bookings also get free tickets for the Theme Park in 1/2 term.

The only reason £10 rooms were mentioned is because it has been done before, in December 2006. It has never been repeated, and I would imagine there was good reason for that. Also, £10 rooms were room only, no Breakfast, which was charged at full rate if you wanted to add it on. If you were to add the package being offered on to the £10 rooms being offered back on '06 it would work out more than the current deal.

Remember, the hint was a fantastical Hotel deal. If peoples imaginations ran away with them based on that hint, imagining park openings, amongst other things, then why is that the fault of Alton Towers? They may of suggested people cancel all plans for next weekend etc, but at the end of the day they simply announced that there were would be a hotel deal on offer, which there was.
