That would be the Peugeot Driving School..

It feels like more though, especially with CATCF even though it technically isn't. But Air and Berry Bish Bash have both been sponsored in the past, appropriately though may I add...

:)
Also Air (cadbury's heros), so thats 6 attractions with sponsorship. 7 if you include Cariba Creek at the hotels. I'm sure there's other little bits that have sponsors too, like you said with Ribena Berry Bish Bash.
All Imperial Leather sponsorship has now ended, The Flume has had all Imperial Leather branding removed and the same can be said about the Waterpark. The current sponsorships on park are Sonic, Oblivion with Fanta, the Driving School with Peugeot and Charlie although that is more of an IP than a sponsorship so I wouldn't count that. Sonic and the Driving School work well and I have no problems with these, it is just Oblivion which has been done badly.

It was renamed for a month while they shot a music video on it or something, they renamed it Wonderland or something like that while they did it, but obviously quickly repaired it.

That did happen yes. I find that astronomically more offensive, both for suitability of product and extent of advertising.

Compared to that, I don't really care about this. They haven't renamed the coaster "FANTA VERTICAL ROFLS" or anything, and I imagine it will be temporary until we get "New X-Sector" next year. ;)

Whaaa?!

When was this 'new X-Sector confirmed? I know Morwenna mentioned a family coaster for the Black Hole tent next year, and i'm pretty sure it is still unconfirmed, unless i've missed something?

But for all we know next year, we may just get something along the lines of Spider Crabs. ;)

actually... you know what.. FANTA VERTICAL ROFLS is a fantastic name (sorry pun again!) rename it now Alton!

EDIT: while there at it, can't they rename enterprise to SPINNY LILT ROFLS and submission to 7 UPSIDE DOWN ROFLS and then remake bubble works in the black hole tent but call it COKE FACTORY ROFLS

and rename X-sector to FIZZY ROFL WORLD...

we can dream can't we... :(

I was scared that Fanta would somehow ruin my Blivvy, and they have. Even though there's nothing that Merlin can do, now that Fanta partially own the ride, I don't believe an advertisement of such size should be allowed to be put on the enterence. But hey, what can we do? Another IP for Alton is more money in their wallet.

a sponsorship doesn't mean Fanta partly own the ride, its essentially a fancy word for the selling of advertising space that is slightly linked with the sponsored unit

yes... fanta don't own any part of the ride... it's just like having a billboard on the side of a motorway.

although fanta as good as owns right to this part now... I mean if Alton Towers tones down the advertisement, then coka cola will surely complain as it's not the shear amount of ads they paid for...

To be honest, it's the creative teams behind Oblivion that must be tearing their hair out right now. It's almost as if whoever makes these decisions has forgotten the very essence and psychology of what a theme park is meant for.

Oblivion remains one of the most incredibly designed rollercoasters ever created. For such a simple, yet ingenious concept, the way that the ride was put together, marketed and delivered was a revolution at that time. The TV screens and messages played out to guests, the way the drop has excellent perspective, the design of the queue through various small buildings/tunnels - no major rollercoaster that has been built since by Tussauds or Merlin has frankly come close and I doubt it ever well. A ride built some 13 years later - Krake - can't even hold a candle to the experience of Oblivion and the drop isn't half as good. That is testament to the amazing job done by the creative teams at Tussauds when they were in their 90s peak.

And so, for them - to see bright orange banners everywhere and cartoon faces, logo's and inaccuracies (150' drop) is a complete slap in the face. Oblivion cost £12million - more than even manyof todays new attractions.

Perhaps somebody, somewhere, has almost forgetten how to care, or what it means to have incredible, world beating experiences in their theme park. They obviously want to dilute them with this sort of rubbish and I fear what's next.

The upselling, advertising and sheer extortion is definitely worse at Alton Towers now than I can recall in many years - not since the days when there were 4.30pm ride closes and limited access to Corkscrew and Hex and yet, even then, there was a least free fastrack available to all guests. The park has been pretty quiet this season so far, at least based on my visits - perhaps an overhyped coaster, absolutely no new additions and rip off prices are starting to take their toll?

How long before these TV screens are showing FANTA adverts?

Tongue in cheek comment, but would you put it past them?

To be honest, it rarely pulls queues which mean anyone pays attention to the first two sets of TVs; it may only be a matter of time :|

Are you sure?

Isn't the lack of queue usually because the ride has a super high throughput - something around the 1,800 an hour mark?

Oblivion does get queues only not as long and not as frequently as other rides. This season it has been up to 45 minutes and yes, the ride has pretty much the highest throughput of any coaster in the UK so the queue is generally shorter than the likes of Rita and Air.

Oblivion can still pull substantial queues when it's busy, so the upper/lower tunnel 'speeches' are still very much heard! :)

Also fear not about the draining of the pond by the tunnel... it's for technical reasons, not in preparation for painting. :)

Te last time I queued the full length of the Oblivion queue line (last season)... the first two queue line videos were on mute... so I shall debate your point about them being 'heard'. :|

The first time I rode Oblivion the queue line was long enough to wait through both videos. It's safe to say I excremented myself even more than I had already.

Reading through this topic, it's really grating seeing a few people mocking everyone else for getting bothered about this. We're on an Alton Towers fan forum! The reason we are here is because of a shared passion for the place, and this stems from a love of all the little details, storylines and brilliant creative ideas which set it apart from most other theme parks. If a drastic change like this is made to one of the most prolific areas of the park then yes, there is going to be a backlash on here!
The people who are getting sarcastic and posting patronising eye-rolling emoticons need to realise which website they are posting on! It's the little details that set Alton apart from everywhere else, so when they get altered in such a garish manner, the enthusiast community has a right to be disheartened.
