They'd dig up some story that Nemesis had a quick look at some attractive girl ten years ago and therefore is an evil coaster we shou;dn't vote for.

I love that image, but the guy looking right into the camera and smiling on the promo image ruins it for me.

Big rides! Scary! Fast! Smiley guy! :|

The image is great apart from the terrible textures below 13...

Sorry if this has already posted but there is also a shortened 10 second version of the advert which shows Nemesis, then TH13TEEN, and then the oblivion clips followed lastly by the end scene of the 'Book Online And Save At Altontowers.com'.

Cute little re-enactment of Oblivion in a video from the Oblivion ride team! :)

I actually love the artwork for the marketing campaign, the poster is so aesthetically pleasing! Anyone know the rankings of the coasters at the moment? I know Nemesis was winning by a long shot before :P

Nemesis > Oblivion > Air > Rita > Thirteen apparently.

Interesting how the newer the ride is, the worse its rated in this poll.

If that's not a huge wake up call for Alton Towers, then I don't know what is.

This new marketing campaign is actually very clever.

For the park, not only does it generate interest in the park and drive sales but it also acts as market research to discover which of their rides is most favoured - armed with this information they can then buy in the correct level of merchandise for each ride, knowing that the merchandise for the best ride will sell the best. Furthermore, it may also allow them to see which ride element is most popular (speed, freefall, inversions, airtime etc), which could then be included as part of SW7.

For the public/enthusiasts, they get a chance to be involved in a fun campaign and feel nostalgic over old adverts from the past as well as getting the opportunity to win prizes.

Its a win-win marketing campaign! :D

I'm pretty sure Alton/Merlin realised that the one coaster in their park that is constantly ranked among the best rides in the world, despite its age, is the most favoured before this. :P

What's surprised me with this is that in an enthusiast poll it would be natural to assume Nemesis would walk it, but it's genuinely brilliant to see the everyday guests still favour it as avride as well :D

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's not popular with the GP, I'm just going off the fact that it's the oldest coaster on park now and rarely has the longest queue, plus my non enthusiast friends tended to buy more into the hype of the newer rides with gimmicks, particularly Rita. It is great to see though and I certainly want to see this trend continue. I don't know where Towers have done their Market research in the past, but I think the results so far speak for themselves :)

This really takes the Mick. How can they do a comp called all time greats but just include the coasters that are at the park now. Its like Merlin have totally forgot about the Corkscrew,The Black Hole,Thunder looper and coaster corner.
The queues for the rides I seen this year have been ie size:
1) Air
2) Rita
3) Nemesis
4) Oblivion
5) 13

I been shocked to see queues for 13 less than half hour this year.

But you can't ride a coaster that is no longer there. It wouldn't make sense to include closed rides!

From a marketing perspective, showing rides which no longer exist on the TV would not be a wise move at all. It would just confuse people.

However, I do see where you're coming from.

Plus the fact that this isn't only for enthusiasts. If they started talking about the corkscrew or Thunder Looper then normal guests will get very confused.
It\'s Big Bob, it\'s Big Bob, it\'s Big Bobs radio show.

But would the normal non enthusiasts really care what's the greatest. If I showed that ad at work not 1 of them would think yeah lets spend over £100 (2 for 1 vouchers, petrol and parking) and go to Alton Towers. Also how many people would go to Alton Towers then vote on line. I bet many just visit the main website just to check opening/closing times and prices.

They could have brought back the event where you ride the 5 coasters and instead of getting your card stamped you get to vote instead with a change to win big prizes.

With the fantastic publicity around this stunt? Yes, I think a good proportion will, whether they vote using the app, the website, or the tubes in the hotel, with the amount of coverage it's getting around park it would be impossible for a guest to ignore this.

I think it's completely belittling "normal non enthusiasts" to suggest that people don't come back from the park with favourite rides, and I believe that with the amount of hype there is around voting, many would go home/use the app to vote following their trip.

Do you not think people who see the ad will be intrigued by the voting system, and then encounter the reduced price tickets, which would then encourage them to visit the park? :)
