I reckon the large scale dark ride might just be a retheme of Charlie. You know what merlin are like.

Th13teen is a family coaster and although Air/Galactica has a 1.4m height restriction, it's very tame so could be seen as family friendly

One of the members of my family were walking in the gardens yesterday and talking to one of the gardeners. Apparently they're doing lots of work in the gardens in order to get planning permission for the cross valley coaster.

Yes but Th13teen wasn't planned to be a family coaster, and Air isn't either.

Th13teen was absolutely planned to be a family coaster, it was just marketed towards a more mature audience.

Got talking to a very friendly member of staff on Rita this morning. We got talking coasters and SW8 came up. After a bit of pushing, he told me all he knew. He said that, whilst no official announcement has been made to the staff yet, they all know what it's going to be. He said it's supposed to be a wooden coaster, most likely for 2017, but would say no more.

It's a fairly unreliable source (he seemed quite confident in what he was saying, but was definitely a new staff member) so I wouldn't trust it too heavily, but it's very interesting.

Thanks Dan :) I would love to see a dueling wooden coaster! Something like Joris en de Draak but with really heavy themeing, indoor/dark ride section and lots of tunnels! Quite keen for RMC's but Alton definetely need a GCI or GG

I would like two dueling wooden coasters with a theme of a battle between the inhabitants of Merrie England and the pirates of Mutiny Bay. I know in practice the dueling wouldn't work and the whole idea is very far fetched but it would still be sick.

I think you're reading to much in to it. I think ground breaking just means good

Potentially "ground-breaking" is their substitute for "world's first", with the possibility that they won't chase a gimmick/record with this ride. Of course it could just be that the phrase is due to appear as things progress...

Most inversion on a woodie isn't too far fetched but I think the record will be too similar to the Smiler's for merlin to go for it.

If they avoid inversions then it would also be more accessible to families and younger guests, whilst also giving thrill seekers their long desired wooden coaster.

Maybe longest woodie. I don't know what the record is but it's a massive space for a coaster

I'm not sure how they'll do a world record with this ride if they are going to, especially if it's going to be a woody. Is there a triple duelling woody somewhere? I don't know, but the woody coaster isn't confirmed yet so we shouldn't get too hyped but I am intrigued.

I'd choose to read Ground breaking as 'not an identifiable worlds' first but it does something novel' in this context. I suspect they'd specify if they were going for a world's first or a record breaker otherwise.

This record has been held by The Beast at Kings Island since 1979. At 7,359 ft long, it would be hard to beat, especially considering their height limit, but not impossible!

Where does this 'ground breaking' statement come from?

The SW8 banners in Mutiny Bay read "SW8. Ground breaking new ride development"
