I guess Merlin are really wanting to capitalise on the Secret Weapon brand. I'm kinda viewing this series as them emphasising the importance of SW8, by comparing to the other well known coasters at the park. I actually really like this little count down to the announcement on Monday... it gives absolutely no info away, yet it still grabs our attention. I feel like they are preparing us for the reveal!

How dare you. I love that ride theme and won't hear a word said against it.  ;)
I find it a bit strange that merlin are all of a sudden marketing the secret weapon series as a whole, considering that the marketing before was so, so, much better. I really hope we hear that tribal - inspired rendition of ITHOTMK again, and I can imagine them including it in the resort advert , in the same vein as the smiler advert in 2013.

I hope they go with that style of advert as well because I absolutely loved the ones for the smiler and galactica with the animated tower street and towers in the background.

^ same. It gave a sense of continuity between the ads and brought everything together. The little Easter eggs were awesome too.

This ad style gives Alton Towers an identity while still keeping the rides' individual themes very much intact, long may it continue.

Also helps the public know what is being advertised such as when the TV advert for Th13teen came out, it looked like it was advertising a horror film until the last few seconds, whereas these ones start with the towers then show off the ride.

Th13teen had a brilliant advert.. and when The Smiler first came on TV, have me chills.. if they follow the same advertisement method, and use that ITHOFMK tribal chanting.. that would give anyone a right good shiver down the spine :lol

I like the advert for Th13teen but it was quite vague until the final few moments with the drop and the rendition of ITHOTMK. It could've been an advert for a film, game or anything but it was still a very good advert.

As we all know from following previous construction projects, the most common thing that gets scrapped is theming elements, which is usually down to budgetary reasons and I believe this to be no exception. The area that was planned to contain TE1 now forms part of the queue-line and there’s no room to fit anything like the size of the structure detailed on the plans.

Aye, for sure. I think we can close the lid on that possibility- I don't think we'll be seeing the sun we might have expected to see.

Thanks for posting, Liam :)
This should leave The Smiler before the announcement on Monday. I'm still not keen on the videos but the excitement is building :D

Personally I like the videos and the way they're including the past Secret Weapons to advertise SW8 - it's certainly building the excitement too and I'm looking forward to the reveal.

Anyone else find it annoying that Rita's not a Secret Weapon?  :|

I like the idea of these little countdown videos but they are slightly poorly made. For example, they could be better if glimpses of the past SWs appeared in a cloud of black smoke or behind some flames or something. They just look a bit Windows Movie Maker.

Excited to see what information we'll be getting on Monday. We'll certainly have the name which I think most if us can agree is Wicker Man, but with the wooden rollercoaster being just a "small part" of the experience I wonder how much detail they'll go into about what the 'big part?'  :-k is.
Life is a roller coaster. You can either scream every time you hit a bump or you can throw your hands up in the air and enjoy it.

Rita isn't a world class attraction, and is an off the shelf model from Intamin. There's no reason to call Rita a Secret Weapon.

There are a number of reasons as to why Rita wasn't marketed using the Secret Weapon name. Yes, it did lack the complete package which makes the Secret Weapons stand out such as the unique ride experience, or landscaping and theming, but Rita: Queen of Speed did cost a similar amount to the other SW coasters. However it was also constructed at a time when the Resort was moving away from the 'magic' style of branding and many of the well known features of the Alton Towers brand were dropped at the time - including In the Hall of the Mountain King not being used at the Resort 'theme tune'. It wasn't until Tussauds took over the park in 2007 that many of these features were brought back, including the SW label and ITHOTMK. I won't go into more detaill as we'll get the main SW8 discussion off track, however if you do want to know more take a look at our A History of the Secret Weapons feature

From drone videos we have seen, the welcoming is still standing. Could this be incase SW8 is delayed like the Smiler was, and they could reopen The Welcoming in March, like they did with The Sanctuary?

I too was surprised to see The Welcoming seemingly still fully intact on the drone footage.  (I'd have guessed it would have been gone very early in closed season).  That said, I can't see the Courtyard Smokehouse not happening.  Whilst Merlin are not afraid to cut costs to the detriment of the guests experience, there is way too much to be made on food & beverage.  The Courtyard Smokehouse will be a new unit in a location that will have high footfall due to SW8.  Lots of money to be made there.

If that's true, I'm quite disappointed. It's definitely somewhere I'd have dined, and with all the advantages that Kraken pointed out, makes it seems a like a missed opportunity... I still have some hope though.

This is speculation but I would assume they're trying to use all their alton towers money on SW8 to make it as amazing as possible and probably needed to wait until SW8 made back some money before doing something else that's new to the park.
