2012 ticket price is £42

Sun Jan 15, 2012 8:21 pm

Whilst having a gander to see if they still did that Thorpe Park/Alton Towers ticket I noticed that the online price was £31.50. It claims to give you a £10.50 saving, which if my maths is right makes the on the day price £42. A £1.20 increase on 2011.

http://www.altontowers.com/tickets/#ThemePark

I also noticed the Feb HT price is creeping up towards £20, now standing at £19.80 on the day.

Thoughts?

The Feb Half Term price has, I think, remained pretty much the same on last year. After a quick bit of research, it was £18 in 2010 - unsure on 2011 - so this is a £1.60 rise in 2 y ears, which at 80 per year is pretty much in line with inflation.

As for the main ticket price, this too has risen within inflation.

I think they know that if they push it, they'll tip the balance - people have less money now than they did last year and the problem will continue into 2013.

Ah didn't know it was £18 in 2010. Having an AP makes me oblivious to the prices sometimes!

If its like last year, there may be another price rise during the year. But at least £42 is a nice round price, making people who use BOGOF/Half price pay £21.

I still think that Alton Towers £42 full price / £21 half price is better value than Drayton Manor, whom it is rumoured are charging £34 full price / £17 half price.

Given that most people use vouchers, a £4 difference between DMP/AT makes DMP look like the rip off. This is APART from young families, where I believe DMP is a superior park anyway.

At least we're getting something new for our money this year! Two things, in fact. :)

As Dan pointed out this has risen with inflation, so putting aside my thoughts that it's too high anyway, I don't really have a problem with the rise. :)

Looks expensive from the cover but when you think about it, how many people actually pay for full priced entry? Not many I would wager! At least this seems somewhat more reasonable than legoland jumping up to that price! At least at towers there is enough to do in a day!

My Uni did a summer ball last summer, and the price for entry there was £40, which was extortionate, puts into perspective really! An entire day of riding things which cost millions to make! I think really it seems more extortionate because mos people. An remember the days when entry was less than £30.

Could anyone who knows these things possibly do a post comparing the 2011 price for half-term, entry and all the types of Fasttrack compare to this year's prices with the difference marked? :)

I presume Nemesis: Sub-Terra will be added on to an Adventurer Fastrack during the season! And it always says Resort Box-Office but you'll still be able to go to all the Sales & Info desks around the park.

I usually do a round-up on the news of ticket prices, but we don't actually have firm pricing information for all tickets in 2011.

That said, it appears that they are reluctant to add anything to Fastrack prices above £10 - meaning that many are remaining static.

Th13teen is on a family fastrack package!? Wow! Finally...!

^I completely agree. I think whilst Fastrack is still expensive (Especially Platinum that was only £40 a few years back!) I think the new packages are better and it is interesting that bolt ons are now available. :)

I don't think a £2 price increase is too bad - especially with two new attractions this year. With the amount of BOGOF'S available, no-one sensible pays full price anyway.

I do wish they'd reduce the amount of fastracks available but that won't happen. Spinball being in a child's package won't help the throughput. I'm very surprised at the Scream Plus increase as £7 is quite a large increase.

It's a fair increase, and a nice round price for BOGOFs. Can't really complain too much. Dan's point about DMP really brings it home.

Why's the deal with the ever more complex fastracks? Remember the good old days when one ticket got you on three thrill rides and The Flume, another one got you on the most popular family rides and another got you a time slot for Rita? Now it's ridiculous and confusing.

Forgive me for my ignorance on this matter at the moment, but do we know what the car parking charges this year will be? If it's still £6 thats when it would get disgusting though. Do they really need to charge for the car park when the entrance is this high? :|

I find this a odd move, I understand it, but £40 would of been fine if more prices where increased elsewhere. Well, it's things we have to cope for in these tough times, but 2012 is gonna be a good year.

Remember, the 2011 price was £40.80 per person. Not £40.00.

To my knowledge, Car Parking will remain at £6.00 this season. They simply cannot add a £1 to it every year, or else it would soon be £10, £15...!

So, yeah - Car Parking £6.00.

It's silly though, why not drop it to £5? People are much more likely to hand over a £5 note rather than have to faff about looking for an extra pound surely? Meh, I don't know! I'd be happy to pay £21 for a day using a bogof voucher. Seeing as i wont have an AP this year, I will have to!

My housemate works for legoland in one of the ticket booths and he says hardly anyone actually pays the full entrance price. It would be silly to pay that really when all the vouchers are so easy to get anyway!

Something like this, Sam?

Thought I'd add one for the actual rides and attractions included in Fastrack tickets. Note: At first there may not be any changes although if you look closer you'll notice a few things have changed/been added/been removed with some of the Fastrack tickets.

Prices may not be exact for 2011, although the prices are about as accurate as you can get them.

The new fastrack options are clearly designed to maximise the number they are able to sell, be placing high capacity rides on a number of different tickets.

Spinball's queue is going to be absolutely unbearable now it's part of a fastrack package.

Enterprise and Submission have both been removed from the ultimate/platinum packages...
