things you've had to do to get to Alton Towers

Tue Mar 20, 2012 11:03 pm

Ok, firstly I'd like to aploigise if this is in the wrong section of the forums but just for a laugh I'd like to see if anybody has had to make any sacrifices/excusses to get to alton towers.
For example my other half is scared [email protected]*#less of more or less any ride can't get him near ANY theme park (total whimp!!) And he wanted to spend the week our children had gone away with the grandparents away together on a nice short break. However I knew this was the only time I could get to Alton Towers where I could spend the entire day doing the coasters rather than spending most the day in cloud cucko land so in the end i went to alton towers for the day whilst he went on a fishing trip with his mate for 3 days with the face on. Was I being selfish? Or has anybody else had a similar situation?
Don't look down............

Convince your business studies teacher that by arranging a talk with John Wardley over marketing rides would be great influence to the class.

February this year.

Get up at 5:30 in the morning when it's freezing cold and then catch a cold train to Derby to wait 40 minutes in the cold to get on a cold bus to get to a freezing cold park, then repeat the journey back.

Oh, and the coasters weren't open either. :(

I once travelled to Alton Towers using 4 trains (including a steam train) a narrowboat and a lift from a worker at Froghall station.  It took around 52 hours all in all, I wouldn't recommend it.

Can you please share this travelogue sometime?

As for the topic itself, I've endured 5am wake ups for 6:10 trains to Stoke from Reading but that barely scratches the surface of 'extreme' in comparison to many others who may comment! :P

I did a jailbreak for charity about 4 years ago with a friend, (get from one place to as far away as possible wih no money whatsoever, take a photo with the days paper at a recognisable location, then hitch back!) our target was john o groates from w-s-m. It was about 3pm, we were tired, hungry and in stoke, so decided to use alton towers as our destination instead, i was stood outside the entrance in my "prison" outfit with my fellow inmate taking the photo whena nice guy in a suit came up and asked what we were up to, we explained our situation and he escorted us into the park to get a photo outside oblivon with the paper. We did jokingly ask if we could go on and use the orp as proof, he politley declined, then escorted us back to the entrance.

We finally got back to weston at 2am. I thought we'd done enough to win the competition but another team managed to get to paris!!

Getting up to leave Cornwall at 2am for a trip to Towers - and then coming back the same day - is definitely not something I'd recommend. Also, as I live in Cornwall, I have to spend a day either side of a visit to Towers travelling.

When I got to Towers, I have to get up early, usually around 6am and then have to take a 3 hour car journey to get there and another 3 hour to get back home. Still completely worth the trip :)
Theme Parks are my way of life.

March Meet last year, I had to pay my dad to drive me from North Yorkshire (150 miles) to Towers, back home, to Towers to pick me up the next day, then home again. Do I feel bad? A little.

Getting up at 4am, and on a train to Stoke from Euston at 7am - oh wait, I do this EVERY time I visit Towers :(

Will be a bit easier from May thankfully :)
