The merch selection at Thorpe and Towers has been very very good this year so far...

Agreed...

I really like the new monorail station music, much prefer it over last years which, although fun, didn't really seem to adhere to any particular style for the park overall.

I don't like the weird echoey 'skyride' effect at the start and end of the skyride commentary loop though.

The monorail theme was never meant to fit in. R.I.P

Also just looking at the Ice Age advert again, has anyone else noticed the 'air swirl' clouds in the sky?  ;)

Was just watching Spongebob Squarepants on Nickelodeon and a different resort advert came on, This was promoting short breaks at the resort and was heavily based on the Waterpark and Hotels and also the Theme Park. The advert is a mix of last years resort add as well as new footage including the Waterpark. Looked rather good  :D

Luckily my Thirteen bear and Vampire bear keep Nemesis bear calm.

I had a great trip last Saturday actually. The park looks so fresh after the closed season. Love the new merchandise such as the Oblivion holigram fridge magnet, the new Rita and Nemesis bears, some of the keyrings and Nemesis shirts which I shall be purchasing at some point.
I don't really think the way they've done Congo's entrance works though, particularly at the split off when fastrack heads off up the exit. Very perculiar.
1. Expedition Everest 2. Hollywood Tower of Terror 3.Superman De Acero 4. Katun and Nemesis 6. OzIris 7. Blue Fire 8. Black Mamba 9. Manta 10. Oblivion

Pretty good day all round today.

New merchandise is brill, the entertainments side of things are really good. Food quality is fantastic. Something I forgot when visiting KFC is that the staff genuinely didn't care or made any sort of small talk with you - the atmosphere and the change in attitude now it's Fried Chicken Co is amazing. Very impressed.

Best part of the day for me though is monorail. The staff on there were fantastic. Getting people to wave madly at a train, and did a mexican wave whilst we were in the queueline. Great fun, makes a hugely positive ending to the day. Far better than the previous experiences I've had when they overexaggerate the queue and are just a bunch of moody gits.

As for the monorail/skyride advertising... I think they're okay. Just need to be longer. Skyride repeats itself on the shortest part of the journey, and monorail only seems to be a few minutes. Just longer, maybe just leaving us with the amazing new soundtrack would suffice for a bit (and show the rides like the old video on monorail).

A quick update from today:

-New watercannons have been added to the walkway adjacent to the Congo River Rapids giving passers by a chance to soak riders (for a £1 charge of course  ;) )
Image

-Woodcutters Bar & Grill and the Fresh Fish and Chip restaurants have had new outdoor umbrella's and canopy's fitted.

-New merchandise including 'Duel Laser Blasters', Ripsaw Merch 'Medals' and Oblivion 'Build your own model (card pack)'

Alton Towers 2012 in Review

Saw the duel blasters and cardboard Blivvy last week. Thought they looked fantastic. The new covered area outside fresh fish and chips is great too. Good for a coffee while watching ripsaw if it's breezy!

The water cannons weren't there last week though. Ugh, the rapids are just the right level of wetness right now. I don't want some randomer squirting me k thnx.

I doubt many would pay £1 to squirt others for a short amount of time when you can shoot at a closer range in Mutiny Bay.

And TTF meme using ftw!

^Yeah but there is something much more satisfying about squirting unsuspecting victims....;)

We've been asking for water guns in Katanga for a while, and its great they have finally installed some. I'm glad that the rapids don't soak you, given our climate, but i've been on them many occassions and come off virtually bone dry which is boring. Asides from the wave splashes and waterfalls there was nothing else to get you wet, so these squirters will bring some added fun to the ride. Plus, they are themed....:)

Although for £1 you would expect a good 5/10 minutes..

I'm a bit confused as to where exactly they are located though?

:)

If only they actually started using the proper Oblivion logo might I think about buying some merch for the ride.
