Does anyone know if the Chained Oak was affected?

I doubt much will have happened to the Chained Oak, if anything. Though towards the top of the little valley it is in it's still rather well shelted by the surrounding trees in the area. At the worse there may be a couple of broken bows I should think :)

Can I ask why?

They were lucky no-one was injured, but they seemed to handle the situation well.

Shame about that big tree in Mutiny Bay, it did a good job of hiding The Flume out of sight.

From what I could see yesterday, the main damage was the big tree near the flume, which has now been cleared around and has a temp fence around it. And a branch on the way up to Hex from battle galleons, whch has broke some of the metal fence. Apart from that I didnt really see much more damage around the park.

A few peeps from TTF are there today and say that most of the rides are closed.  (RITA, 13, Oblivion, Flume, Sky Ride, Enterprise to name but a few).  I think they said Nemesis was open though, as is Hex, which was closed yesterday.  Lots of tree felling taking place too.  Weather is rather awful by the sounds of it.

I thought the weather today is worst than it was at the beginning of April.

Not great news for the park again really... It's annoying really because they'll just get another barrage of complaints and bad PR for something that is completely out of their control...

Its too bad for AT to close again today, but the weather here in Shrewsbury is terrible, non stop rain, wind blowing all sorts down, so I can imagine what it would be like at Alton.
I guess its better for the guests if they close, as if it were open, hardly any rides would be, so it would be better to get a full refund to come back another day.
I hope Alton have handled the situation well, as usual.

Not good for the PR, but the safety precautions from last time has to be taken. So I can understand it's closure.

It's been like this for almost a 24 hours non-stop up North.

Raging twitter users = bad PR.

With most rides being closed making their days even worse, Alton should heavily compensate and warn them on days like these. We can hope and assume that Alton have managed the situation well from previous experiences.

its not good PR either way open or clossed

1 - stay open and a few rides operate.
2 - close park offer a return day.

people will complain bout either one.

Ash Cloud in iceland people complained bout grounding planes, due to saftey reasons, planes cant fly in the skys yet people wanted to fly.

you cant do right for wrong. yes u can come back another day but what bout fuel cost?? u cant except AT to foot the bill for that too. but people will try and complain more to get that extra bit.

These trees that are being felled... can they be removed permanently? And thus, open up the park slightly more for construction work?

I remember a big thing when the woodie was being proposed is that the park would have to wait for all the trees in its path to die naturally or something.
