I was at alton towers last Thursday (23/08), and saw the monorail being evacuated due to a fire drill.  All I know is that it was up and running again within about half an hour.  The skyride seemed to be having technical issues that day and wasn't open until about 1 o'clock, and it was stopping and starting virtually every minute for about 10 minutes.

Visited on Bank Holiday Monday (27th August) and Sonic Spinball was down in the morning after it had been running for about 5 minutes! The ride was shut for at least half an hour while mechanics had to fix the final brake run:

Also, Rita was shut for several minutes due to technical difficulties. And yes, that walkway is still there:

I noticed today that all the fake ivy has been taken off the exterior of the Th13teen station... Strange I thought!

Only later did I make the connection that it was probably the same ivy that was now 'theming' the the walkway tunnel!

The "fake" ivy that adorned the th13teen station was removed earlier if not over closed season, this was due to it discolouring and turning blue which kind of just make it look silly hence its removal, which obviously meant it was to easy to replace, hence why it has been left, but i have to admit it does look very bare now...

And here was me thinking it was Merlin recycling theming!

Getting back to downtime... Sonic was down after issues around 2pm. Two car had stopped on block brakes and were being evacuated, due to another car stuck in the final dip before the brake run. No sure how it managed to get stuck there... Too heavy doesn't seem plausible enough!

(7th September) the Skyride - was reported to have stopped mid ride.

Reports from guests stranded on the ride began to appear on various social networking sites, claiming to have been trapped in the gondolas in excess of forty five minutes.

Alton Towers staff were able to get the ride up and running again later, with guests being able to disembark at approximately 5pm.

I love the skyride, offers the best views in the park, however it does seem to be more and more of a liability these days.

Obviously it offers a great way to get around the park without walking for miles, however something clearly needs to be done.

Has it had much maintenance work done on it in the past few years?

Anyone know if Rita is running atm? It was down all day on Monday.

Also, that walkway is actually 10x worse in real life than it looks in that picture...

Should be open. I am lucky, I have never had a significant ride down when at the park

Same here, can't recall any ride being out. Even if there was I probably on the other side of the park at the time and by the time I got over to say... the dark forest.... what ever ride was down was now open

When Rita's cable snapped, how long was it closed for? and also why has some of the dark forest area been closed off, the last time I went (17th August) it was closed off.  :?
