Roller coaster Safety Question

Sun Jan 13, 2013 4:38 pm

If i rollercoaster has a loop, barrel roll, flip or anything that makes it go upside down or go on it's side. Is it compulsory to put harness's on the coaster's or is there a option to let ole science physics and gravity do the trick to keep people in there seats?

I understand that it will be compulsory if it goes upside down or on it's side for more than 3 seconds. But can the laws on physics and gravity hold a person in a carriage on a restraint type ride.

Roller coaster Safety Question

It would all be to do with forces. Eg a loop is designed in a year drop shape rather than a perfect circle so you exert Gs rather than lift out of your seat at the top.
It would be calculations of weight of a person vs forces excreted
But you always need a restrain for safety, as these forces suggest no air resistance etc which of course can change the effect the ride gives on riders.

Take a look at enterprise,  not a coaster, but it explains all.

If You Have A Look At The Restraints Of The Thunder Looper, It Had Lap Restraints On a Looping Coaster. And It Went Almost The Same Speed As Rita (Correct Me If Im Wrong).

Just a quick question now and I think it fits this topic but..
On rcdb it says that there has been 6 inversion breakdowns at alton towes. So I'm just wondering if any of you know what these are and what happened during them?

The Inversion Breakdown on RCDB is simply how many inversions at a certain park. Only Nemesis and Air have inversion (currently)

Thanks I never realised that. I'm guessing alton towers will shoot up that leader board when SW7 opens :D
