May I just remind you Slammer had all its signage removed in 2013 and is still operating :)

I don't know what interview Ofcom where reviewing but it certainly wasn't the same as the one everyone else saw.

The Smiler merchandise in Towers Trading has all been replaced by Oblivion merchandise. The only reference to The Smiler anywhere on resort is the Smiler vinyls above where the merchandise used to be.

I would imagine that all Smiler branding has been removed from X-Sector, including the "Buy The Smiler" signage. I'm sure some photos of the area will be posted as soon as people have visited now X-Sector is open again.

The Smiler ip is what they call in the media "a toxic brand" and like lee says merlin will consider very long and hard if its worth bringing it back

After all the negative media coverage its probably not worth it a rebrand is the perfect chance to move on that is if the ride ever reopens

Don't you think that the 'smiling' part of the Smiler logo looks like the bat wing where the accident happened? I think it's a good idea to remove the signage for the time being...

I have a Smiler keyring on my bunch of keys - I've been very wary about leaving my keys on show but I don't really want to take it off as I like it.

I am also disappointed about Ofcom's lame response to the Burley/Varney interview.

Why would they take down the Saw signage? Nothing bad had happened on Saw.

I was on park today and it was my first visit for this season, wasn't too busy to start with, and Oblivion, Enterprise & Sonic Spinball re-opened at around 2 this afternoon.

As to a question asked earlier, you can not hear any music playing in X Sector until you are in Oblivion's queue.

Also, when stood next to The Smiler it appears that all 5 cars have been removed from the track, and the logo has been taken off but 'The Smiler' name seems to have just been temporarily covered up.

To add on to my last post, the 'Buy The Smiler' signage has also been removed, and The Smiler logo that you see when you look down from Oblivion's drop which used to be Fanta has also been removed.

Going by this image it looks as though the lettering has been removed, but then tape has been used to cover the adhesive which I assume could still be distinguished as reading 'The Smiler'.

That is probably more likely to be honest, it was weird being next to it because its usually so loud, but nothing was on today, Marmaliser screens are obviously off just in case anyone was wondering.

I'm not sure if they will change the name of the Smiler or not, but the name now has the stigma of the accident attached to it which is not a good thing for any future promotions.

Sometimes after a serious incident in a nightclub you will find that they close down and re-open
within a couple of months under a new name.
