was it ever going to be open before next year? I dont think so. I think its best all around if it opens with the rest of the park opening day 2016. If it goes longer, it could send out a message that too much needed doing to it.

There was no denying it seemed they pushed to try to get it open, too much happened in and around the ride in hopes it would get signed off but for whatever reason it never did. So therefore it put a halt to any possible re-opening this season.

If it isn't open by season open date 2016 I'd be very surprised.

I'm just a bit worried i'll book tickets for opening day and they'll have decided to reopen the Smiler a week later or something so it doesn't overshadow the new season starting.

They mentioned any news regarding its re-opening will be posted on the website. So depending on when you plan to book tickets you may have the information you already need to know before the booking process comes about.

I think they will want it to be open for the start of the new season with Easter been on the 26th March next year.

That's good to know, but I was hoping to book a stay during the January sale again (assuming there is one this year.) Most people I know are broke so it helps to get people to come with you when you can book as cheap as possible.

Had a peak around today and it appears all Smiler trains have been removed from the site.

Could they be undergoing maintenance/changes? Even during the closed season trains aren't normally removed completely are they?

Did you see them via transport or do you mean they just weren't visible in the station? They could be in the maintenance bay I mean there is only three now after all.

I have a feeling they've removed them for maintenance, their closed season work might begin early this year.

Since general consensus seems to be that throughput would be too slow with only 3 cars what do you think the chances are of them ordering at least one more and, also, roughly how long would it take the manufacturer to build one?

I have seen the Smiler operating with three trains perfectly fine, and even seen it walk on when it is operating with only three trains :)

Who says they haven't already ordered or taken delivery of new trains.

No one, but I was wondering what the likelihood of it is. Since Jack said it runs fine on 3 trains maybe they'll just leave it at that.

I'd imagine over closed season all trains are kept in the nice, warm maintenance bay where they're out of the snow and rain, and getting essential maintenance done.

I guess with new trains they would have to be redesigned at the front to take better impact.

That would be basically saying they imagine it could happen again. This ride should not re-open if there is even the slightest bit of doubt.

It's now up to HSE & Alton Towers to figure it out but a redesign of the trains is not one of the things I'd imagine.

When was the last time the ride was seen testing?
Erm, change of plan, I prefer The Smiler. Rita's rubbish. Should have thought of that...

If we're referring to the whereabouts of the three trains, the garage can accommodate two trains, so I assume that's where two of them were, and the third was in the station. Spotted the third at the front of the station whilst on park yesterday. It's entirely possible now that since The Smiler hasn't reopened this season, Gerstlauer may also produce two trains to replace the damaged ones from the crash (indeed they may have already been in the process of doing so but who knows) and send them over, get them run in pre-season, and reopen next year with full 5 train operation.
