I just keep coming back to the similarities between ATs teaser pic and the Virgin Galactic logo.

In what way? Like it doesn't need it or it wouldn't work with the track layout or rider position?
At least riding on Air you tend not to look at your own body whilst lying on your front, I reckon the most immersion breaking part of VR is looking down and not seeing yourself.

I'm on park today Emporium, however the area is blocked off. I don't know if it's possible to get pictures.

You might be able to see from the car park behind air, and around the side of the main car parks you can see the lift but then again there might be some of the construction barriers there.

You should be able to see something on the monorail, if it is open

The trains had something in the front row and it was operating a few days ago according to someone on Towers Street. Not sure what it was though. Then I thought about the scheduled closure had in August/September til 2. I think there's a possibility that's when they could have done the telemetry logging if it is going to be VR.

In the latest blog entry it hints at what we already knew: VR! With the added use of a "meteoric" year further hinting at a space theme: Galactica.

We've got a ground-breaking ride experience..

Use of metoric could also indicate a space theme

Very brief update for the wallpaper I did a while back. Removed the track, changed the text. Text now reads: 'In 2016 prepare for a flight experience out of this world..'

And here is a version without any text if there are some among you who wish to create your own / use it for whatever.

Really like this, but what happened to the Dad? Is possession from evil spirits a side-effect of using vr? :P

Maybe.. :D

I just wanted something different to represent VR. Obviously sticking a headset over his head would of looked kinda lame so instead just used a lens flare effect in both eyes as the representation of this. Didn't want to use it on all 4 as it would be a bit overkill on screen imo and seeing as it is likely an optional experience I thought I'd keep it at one.

They have said they are going to post another picture of the track pieces later because you couldn't see them in the above picture. I'll update this post if they upload another picture within the next 30 mins :)

January 12th, 8:30am...

The Birmingham Mail have said that Air 2.0 is being announced on the above date!

http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/whats-on/family-kids-news/alton-towers-announce-new-ride-10644134

The launch event is going to be held at the science museum, which leads me to believe that there may be a sponsorship involved!

The article mentioned above, if true, confirms that it will 100% have a space theme to it given that the science museum are holding special space themed events. Also with Tim Peake being the first British ESA astronaut to be on international space station, it kind of makes sense to be celebrating all things astronomical. I just hope they theme it very well. I reckon the pre show will be something along the lines of launching into space. If it's possible for the coaster to have a launch added during the closed, than it would help with that idea, but it seems unlikely.

I don't think it was wise to include screaming and such phrases like: "In space you can't hear yourself scream because there is no air." while promoting this new experience, its a good play on words considering its at the minute called Air.

But when The Smiler aftermath videos involved guests screaming.. for all the wrong reasons it is kind of wrong, its like saying if anything happened nobody will hear you scream.

Merlin should also clear it up with media that its not exactly a new ride being built because it seems some newspapers will twist it:

"Alton Towers are set to build a new ride in 2016 after a horrific year in order to regain profits."

Space theme does seem like a bizarre choice considering this is Forbidden Valley. We knew it all along but now it's confirmed, it just seems a bit weird.

Almost convinced now we are going to have a VR ride on our hands but what's this about track on the car park?
