If I remember correctly thirteen was called surrender up until the name was confirmied. its probably the same story here
In just 1 day I managed: 75 rides on stealth, 8 swarms, the dodgems and a tea cups. February half term was good.

I honestly believe that The Smiler will become the new name for The Enterprise, and we may well see either the whole "Smiler" logo or just one of the eyes from the logo painted on the arms, to give the spiral effect while the ride is spinning? #getcorrected

That would make sense but the new posters have "The smiler at Alton towers resort" on them and i just don't think Alton towers would advertise that. The most likely scenario is what happened with thirteen being advertised as surrender until pretty much opening day when it was called thirteen.
As for enterprise with the swirls on it, i feel it would take away from the x-sector and turn it into SW7 land

Something just dawned on me...

Could 'The Smiler' be a mere 'nickname' for the facility as a whole? Kinda like how a prison might be referred to as 'The Slammer'?

"Send him to the Slammer."
"Send him to the Smiler."

It works linguistically and fits with the context of a mental asylum.

Maybe, I still take the whole trademark with a pinch of salt.. Why you ask?

Definition of trademark:

1. Abbr. TM A name, symbol, or other device identifying a product, officially registered and legally restricted to the use of the owner or manufacturer.
2. A distinctive characteristic by which a person or thing comes to be known: the shuffle and snicker that became the comedian's trademark.

tr.v. trade·marked, trade·mark·ing, trade·marks

1. To label (a product) with proprietary identification.
2. To register (something) as a trademark.

I doubt it. They wouldn't go and promote, or trademark, a nickname. In my opinion.

What I find extremely interesting at the moment is that over past couple of months, the marketing had changed from advertising this ride as a "world first" to now being simply "world beating" despite being promised as a world first by the Alton Towers management some time before.

We all came to accept that there might not be a secret element and instead that they would go for the most number of inversions, or some other record breaking score but there's a video attached to this article which revealed the name of the ride today: http://metro.co.uk/2013/01/21/eweve-bee ... d-3359300/

In the video, the narrator clearly says "our world first roller coaster".  Now, I find it extremely unlikely that they're going for the inversion record. So what on earth could possibly be world beating and world first about this ride?  :?

I'm actually thinking the secret element is that the track goes upside down, So the coaster is facing vertical. Coaster boosts up vertically and then waits 5 seconds before falling downwards.

Edit: Doctor Kelman, Probably is the smiley face.

Looking at the main AT website, the picture of the ride seems to show Overhead restraints?

Floorless trains also!!!!

The trains look a lot like the B&M floorless models, however if they are indeed floorless it will confirm OSTR's.

Maybee the Worlds First Floorless Gerstlauer!

Ohh I'm excited now!

Tell me about it....

I hope it's better than that, but if you think about it what else would be more plausible, we already know that there is going to be a new train style, how hard would it be to make it completely different, and "new"; even more so a worlds first!?

Now AT are clearly marketing this as a worlds first, I think we will be seeing the 'washing machine' element. This is great though because it means once AT has the inversion record it can never be beaten.

If they are going for inversions they only need 12 (at least), and it would both a world's first and world beating - no rollercoaster has done 12 inversions before, and it would beat the previous inversion record.
