We went yesterday and the track for Smiler is not even completed! There is still a fair amount of track to be seen in the storage area as you walk from the Park to the car park! I cannot see it being ready for May! I hope it is, but as somebody else has pointed out - there needs to be a lot of hours testing before it can be opened!

It wont take long to complete the remainder of the track, be about 2 weeks? that takes us up to 23rd april. Then they have to wire the whole thing up like the chains on lifts, sensors on track, the marmaliser etc etc Im not sure how long that takes but say it takes a week we get to 30th april. Then they will have to test the ride which is 200 hours or something around that. If they did that 9 hours a day it would take around 3 weeks and in the mean time do all the work in the station and landscaping meaning they could open up in the last week of may.

Im no expert or anything so please by all means correct me if im wrong im just making a guess :)

Exactly what I said all along but why would alton towers have a press conference on the 17th? It's gonna open 18th or the 31st. There's no doubt it will be one or the other

And yet more proof of how big this thing is. These are full size oil drums. On top of the arms. And there is SIX of them on ONE segment of arm.

I'm not really technical or anything and have been lurking around this post since it started and I just want to say I think it looks incredible!! The theming looks amazing and I can't wait to see it in person! I love how something new seems to be added everyday! They are doing a grand job.  :D

Please people, keep adding photos for those of us that can't get there until June!  :sadblink: (me)

It looks like there are a large amount of teams on site now judging by The Alton Towers Guide album of photos today. It shows just how much is going on. Today alone there has been giggler tank installations, ground moving for final marmaliser footer placement, transfer track mechanisms construction, remaining concrete panels added to station wall facing the toilet block, construction of the final wall of the maintenance shed, construction of theme object on the X-Sector island (which at the minute looks very puzzling), addition of more pipes to the station building, as well as more ground work at the top of the site. As well as this there were probably tons of other, smaller jobs going on around the site.

I think that puts into perspective just how determined they are at getting this finished and I hope they manage it to a high standard.

With track now on -site and the installation of a support at the top of the site, I believe we will see the first drop constructed tomorrow.

Exciting times.

Also love the logo used on the giggler tanks. It is ingenious and I hope we see a lot more of these little touches from the Resort.

A few things from today:

What the site looks like near both lift hills - notice that both Cranes are this side of the ride:
Image

Notice the mini support where the first drop will lead into the first dive loop:
Image

Transfer track work on-going - also a look at The Tickler brushes:
Image

The Giggler leg - now with attached cannisters/barrels, and nice logo:

The Marmaliser:

Station building:

This is where Theming C on the plans is. Some building going on, what could it be - the original planned vehicle?:
Image

Soon to be shop:
Image

Theming pipes on the side of the station - supposed to be going all over the station building:
Image

More theming parts - oh, and another look at our new shipping container! :):
Image

Maintenance building still having its side walls put on - looks comfy doesn't he?:

Flasher leg:

Look at the frame hole that isn't filled in on the station building...

Image

Could the shop have two different exits:

One leading back to The Smiler plaza (in the photo above), where you enter the queue (remember the plaza that goes across the Batwing/Cobra Roll isn't happening now).

The other being behind the Batwing/Cobra Roll next to Oblivions tunnel exit meeting to the central island.

The only reason against this would be that its narrow and may cause problems.

I'm guessing its the photo building, where you collect the pictures, or video. It could be a themed piece of scenery though
