Wasn't that added the other day when they started on the vertical lift hill. Although the bottom picture is from today showing it.

That top image looks more like the start of the first lift hill. I could be completely wrong here of course!

Yep you can see it installed on Friday before the main lift supports:

(Thanks to Zach Lowe - taken Friday 12th)

Maybe that photo is of the first lift? Rather than the vertical one? Depends when the first photo was taken, any ideas Danny? TheNigeC?

I agree I think its the start of the first lift as if you look carefully at the angle at which the piece finishes its more 45 -60 degrees ish. The vertical start piece finishes at 90 degrees.

And Rollercoasters4Life is right as the vertical one went in a few days ago now.

Yeah its pretty hard to tell from that photo to be honest, but I think that is the vertical lift hill element that is now in place.  On a side note, how strange is it going to be watching a 4 x 4 car go up a vertical lift!!!

I agree! I am so used to just seeing the ordinary 2 rows of 4! xD

wow - I know it's mostly due to the perspective & angle - but really dwarfs oblivion in that shot. What about in real life - how do the two compare?

I cannot wait to ride this! I don't think I ever been so excited to ride a new coaster as much as this! Well done to Alton Towers for creating a ride that may finally beat Nemesis :D This ride looks incredible! However the track in certain places is looking a little worse for wear  :( scratches, rust and dirrt can be seen on about 25% of the track does anyone know if coasters under go a clean before opening day?

Can I ask that people avoid quoting picture heavy posts? Its rather annoying to have to scroll through the same series of images twice in a row...

If you need to use a single photo as an example, you can always cut the quote down to the relevant image/text. Thanks! :)

construction is coming on nicely. I also think that the electrics and theming could be finished soon but Im not sure how much they have done on the outside of the station and on the inside of the station and if there constructing anything underground, anyone got any pitures of the station. And that vertical lift is really tall I thought it was only 30 metres acording to the Alton towers website, so how come its LOOKS so much bigger than oblivion mega exited lol :D

It varies depending on whereabouts construction is taking place. But generally speaking, they aren't allowed to build above the treeline.

Oh right, thanks. So is The Smiler the tallest ride they've ever built...?
