I'll be coming down and will be there for 1.38 precisely if all of my trains and buses make it on time! Looks like i'll be faced with a large queue...

Good news guys! I'm sat in a library in Bristol and I have had it confirmed to me by the Library staff that The Smiler will be open today...

That is exactly what I'm thinking, surely if it was not going to open shortly they would tell people so and to move on.
Not just because its a waste if people's day but also from a h&s point.

It does sound positive though, ESP as it seems there is staff dressed in uniform.
Hope it's the day that people start getting corrected!!

Well AT are in a sticky place.
If they categorically say it isn't open - then you will get an uproar as it isn't open in May.  Loads of people on site moaning
If they officially say it is open - then you will get people complaining that not enough notice was given.  People turn up, ride breaks down etc.

If they don't say anything officially like they have done, people might turn up, but know the risk.

we are british we will que for anything.

at glastonbury we used to start random ques to see how many people we could get behind us before they asked what they were queuing for.

seriously tho think i would go else where first do all the other rides then come back when it was going.

or....actually i might just stand there at the front i guess 3 hrs wait would be worth it to def get on it. then go again later

Come on guys, this topic is going to be insanely busy today, lets please try not to clog it up with crap!

I'm by myself ATM today, and would appreciate if you all keep it easy for me. In fact if we could keep it to updates only as much as possible, that would be fantastic. If you want to talk crap, we have the ShoutBox at the bottom of the main forum page which is perfect for that sort of thing.

Smile always peeps 8)

Very true, it's going to be hard for Alton Towers. I just think it'd make more sense to say 'The Smiler isn't going to be open this morning' so all those in the queue can go and enjoy the other rides for the next hour or so and then pop back after a bit of lunch. And if you're really determined to be first on then you can just stay and save your place.

There will be a smiler at the end of the queue though.

And have to Admit though. Surprised alton have opted for a 'soft' opening on a half termq date lmao

Good news or bad news

Good news - The smiler WILL open today this is categorically confirmed
bad news - Not till about 11 to 12 probably. There needs to be some test runs first and there was a guy at the top of the lift hill before doing something but has since returned back to the station.
Some say they've seen angels, Ive seen The Smiler - That's enough

I'm not great with soft openings. Does it mean that the ride will be open the whole time or just for the soft opening day?
The Smiler is becoming too powerful! Its replacing your memories with its own! SMILE. ALWAYS.

Anyone else notice that the AT twitter account hasn't been updated this morning at all... As of late, they've been posting something along the lines of "The theme park is open today, but The Smiler is currently closed due to technical reasons" but not as of yet today... This, along with the updates on here this morning all point towards an opening of some sort at some point today (soft opening or official opening). I may be wrong, but after reading everything this morning, I can't see it not opening today. Only time will tell........
