Wrong actually - it has quite a few, but they've been switched off or plain broken for donkey's years...[/quote]

Everyone's forgetting about the Multi-Coloured Lights on the Lift Hill :D That's an effect.

But yeah, in X:'s early days, they had things such as:

Revolving Tunnel in queueline - This is now used as part of Hellgate, for those who don't know, Hellgate is part of X:'s old queue.
Fake Lifts - These are the bits you stand in/walk through just before entering the station
Fans - Were above riders heads on Block Sections
Mist Jets - Again, above riders heads on Block Sections
Lit up Mannequins - On one of the block brakes... this was part of Thorpe's attempt at a retheme a few years back.

The robotic-like dummies were taken from X's old queueline, here are archive photos of Freak Show 3D showing them. For those who don't know, Freak Show 3D took over the disused part of X's old queue before it became Hellgate. Whilst FS3D retained X's old theming, I am guessing that it was all torn out for Hellgate. :( The last one shows the tunnel during FS3D, you can still see the "x"s along the barriers.

Apparently there was also an "upside down room" and "hanging bag things, similar to what you get at fairgrounds".

This photo I found from RCDB, dated 2002. It looks like a part of the abandoned queueline (after it was abandoned but before FS3D/Hellgate), but I also found these photos of it now (from ThemeUK) with the coloured lighting, so it could be either. It certainly is not seen by today's guests. In fact, I have never seen this robot thing at all, shame... :(

And this is before the new lighting was installed in 2007. This photo shows the stretch of corridor facing down towards where the robot used to appear from, as you can just see the large 'X' on the sticking out wall, facing the camera, as seen in the following photo. Both the robot and the 'X' on the wall have now gone as well very recently.

Cor! I haven't seen that robot for years in the queueline!
Nice pictures Bill!

The only time I remember seeing that robot was when it was re-themed in 2007, and every few seconds it lit up with some flashing strobes, however I do vaguely remember it moving slightly with a few sound effects. It does upset me in some way that little pieces like this aren't running anymore, as they can sometimes make the ride more enjoyable.
Another thing that bothers me is the old queueline. I've done Hellgate and it's obvious it takes up X's old line, but I can't believe how long the queue's must have been if people went through all of that too!
Does anyone know when they closed this area of the queue off at all, and why?

Also referring to the mannequins, I'm sure there used to be more than just one on one of the block brakes, I remember seeing 2-3, each lit up in different colours making sounds and noises. Although, this was 3 years ago, so I might be wrong. If there were 3 mannequins then I think they were removed due to vandalism. However one still remains on the last block brake, after riding it with the lights on.
Is that correct?

THORPE PARK 2010

Mon Sep 27, 2010 10:23 pm

That robot is behind a 1-way mirror at the end of the first corridor when u enter X. When X was 'updated' a few years back the coloured lighting was put in and the robot boarded up :(.

Those robots that lean out the wall were indeed repainted for FS3D and removed for HG.

When that little 'update' happened 2 of the robots where placed on the 2nd to last block section in X (where u lift slightly), and lights flicked up. Additional info: there were only ever two of those robots used on the second lift, as there still is now.

However the lights no longer are active and with X's lights on you see them any way.

The tunnel used to have X: all over it before it turned to FS3D.

Hope this clears some info, need any more just ask, I remember a lot about the old X, with the long queueline.

If at all true, the following post made today on Thorpe Park Mania is very interesting.

"Weatherspoon on TPM" wrote:
Been to THORPE PARK today with school and was lucky enough to be given a business presentation from the park.
During this a few intresting things for the future of the park were revealed (but they were very vauge about them):

1) SAW - Alive is "only a quick attraction costing £600,000 and will be removed after 3 - 5 years, the attraction may be moved permanently on land if the demand is there"
2) The 2012 coaster is going to be 150ft high (as their hight limit has been raised 50ft) and will be on the left island behind Stealth.
3) The 2015 coaster is going to be located to the right of the entrance bridge and the education centre will be demolished for this nearer the time.
Image

4) Hotel construction is going to start soon for a 2013 opening, "contractors are already on site..."
5) Storm surge (2011 water ride) is going to be themed around Amity Cove, and is on site in "a staff car park, in several pieces..."
6) Pizza hut is the next outlet to be removed and taken over by the park, this will then be followed by Burger King and then KFC.
7) X: No Way Out has had its lights on to allow the park to moniter the number of people being sick on the ride and this has fallen by half since they have been on, next year the ride is set to get a retheme and a new light show is to be installed to help this problem.
8) Octupus Gardens is not gone for good, next year they will be located in the Weymouth SEALIFE Centre.
9) The SAW branding will run out in about five years (apparently) and so the maze will be removed and the ride will be rethemed to something like "The Hanted Mill..."
Oh and the map is apparently not for navigation but its a "work of art..."

And thats all I can remember... Discuss what you think below!

Provides interesting reading, and paints a promising picture for the future of Thorpe Park. :D

Urghhhhh.

WHY. DO. THEY. KEEP. ON. RETHEMING. X.

It is so clear that X has reached the end of a prolonged life. Just to hell with it - i'd rather shut it than have it there. Another coaster - even a cheap one, would be better than X. ANYTHING would be better than X. -____- :x

X No Way Out has never been rethemed properly. Adding a low budget video and some lights in the queueline is not a retheme.

If they choose to do this properly, with significant amounts of money, the ride could be very good. If however all they do is add some strobes and lasers in the pyramid and leave the rest to rot... I'd rather have the whole thing demolished.

That building has so much potential. Bring the best out of the entrance plaza, by fixing the lights and the smoke machines in the little towers; restructuring the whole area so that access is easy (this will be difficult with the 2011 ride); rethink the computer theme and add descriptive theming around the entrance; re build the outdoor queueline; create a themed queueline entrance.

Then, they could create some sort of preshow that takes place in the indoor queueline. This could harness the disused fake lifts, or guests could be stopped in one room to witness the computer itself with some special effects. The whole indoor corridor needs to be rodone, because it feels such a let down at the moment. It definitely needs more effects to appear as you walk down it, and theming on the walls is a very good idea.

Then the coaster itself. Spectacular light effects and animation on every brake run is what is needed. Animatronic robots could be effective, and tunnels could be used to hide the train from the rest of the ride when it stops. When the train rolls forward on the third brake run, a door/gate could move into place in front, to make it look as if the train will crash. All around the pyramid there needs to be new theming, although I am hardly expecting much money being spent in this area...

None of this will cost too much. If they were willing to spend a lot on it, then a proper, theatrical dark ride could be on the cards. However, as this sounds to me like it could either be a significant improvment (as I have desceribed?) that people will enjoy for the thrill/scare factor, or a simple quick fix botch job...

Rethemes in the past have made a difference, so I am expecting big improvments visually and atmospherically next year (if this info is genuine that is). I will be disappointed if they once again miss a trick and leave X to rot like it has for the past few years.

Would making the outside of it look like a pyramid ie, making it look like its make out of stone help it fit in with the new ride?

Thorpe Park: Future Discussion

It's good to hear that Octopus Garden is being relocated to Weymouth Sealife Park. Since Merlin have taken over the place has seen massive improvements and this continues that trend.

Back to Thorpe, X:NWO just needs to go, I don't even bother with this ride anymore as it is just awful.

It can't simply "go", though. Colossus' station would have to be rebuilt on the left side (as it joins on to the X building), Hellgate would be cancelled and it would cost a lot to destroy a building that big. It would take so much to remove the whole thing that it would be better to use the existing structure and a big refurbishment.

I agree with electricBill about the cost of removing the structure. But due to this cost, I worry that Thorpe may just remove the inside ride and leave the external structure to age. Doing what Alton did with the black hole. I really hope this never happens as like many have said it would work great with a retheme. But I sort of doubt Thorpe would shell the out money to destroy it or retheme it, so who knows what will happen.

I absolutely love the idea of a SAW retheme. Make what is already one of the UK's best coasters and best themed coasters even better with a bit extra theming. I'd love to see all the barbed wire in the queue removed, and the theming to go for a more 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' angle.

Isn't that what the original theme idea was before someone had the bright idea to plaster an IP all over it?

Yep, the old theme was much better, in my opinion

Talking about Saw, why did they remove one of the inversions (and where would it have been?)

Although the only reason I posted now was so we could have a row of three of the 'Vote Ultimate' banners :P

Well according to JW the Saw theme was chosen from the beginning, but the early marketing and concept art suggests otherwise. I am pretty certain that the IP was decided on a bit later.

Another note on that subject is I remember Mania Hub stating that "the ride will have a 15 years minimum age restriction because the ride will be based on the Texas Chainsaw Massace film" and that "the windmill shown in the concept art will not be able to spin as it will intefere with heathrow Airport's signals". These were most likely just simple mistakes after somebody mistook rumour for fact.

Blaze, the fourth inversion would have been in place of the airtime hill, just after the banked turn. :)

Plans show it going further to the right after the banked turn. What the inversion was, I am yet to decipher. I have also posted various plans for the ride, showing the intended appearance of the building (it turned out very similar) and concept art.

There is more here.

The 4th inversion is actually a bit more complex than just replacing the airtime hill. The original plans show 2 mid course break runs. I found the Virtual recreation someone made also on Thorpe Park Mania.
