Make I ask what makes you say this? As far as I'm aware a B&M 4D coaster has never been announced, not even in industry speculation. 2/3 protoypes in 2 years is something I simply can't see B&M doing. A wingrider at Thorpe is a definite possibility, but I will be astounded if it is 4D.

I am so pleased that we are finally getting another B&M! Looking forward to seeing the plans later on this week :D!

The German manufacturer Bolliger and Mabillard have been commissioned to build the unique new rollercoaster

By that logic, any coaster that doesn't have a layout clone is "unique".

Saw is unique in that it was the first time Gerstlauer to feature duel loading /unloading.

If B&M were to build a B&M WingRider that's seats spin (Like a 4D Coaster) it would be a prototype.

There was an Italian article posted on here that B&M would build a B&M WingRider coaster that would be heavily discounted and B&M would take what they would learn from this and install the coaster in Thorpe Park, but with spinning seats.

So far...Gardaland has built a Prototype which is the B&M WingRider and now I'm pretty sure Thorpe Park are building an evolution of that coaster but with spinning seats, that would make Thorpe Park's coaster, a B&M WingRider with spinning seats a.k.a B&M 4D.

I don't think it's going to be a world's first, because they would have pushed that phrase massively if that were the case. It may be a record breaker of some sort, I don't think they would use the term unique unless it was marketable. You call any rollercoaster unique for any number of silly reasons so I suspect it will be something with a bit of substance to back it up.

Yup, I remember that article as well. I am convinced it is the new B&M wingrider, but I don't think the seats will spin. B&M are masters at controlling the riders experience. Spinning seats remove that control. But hey, time will tell. I'm just pleased it is a B&M. So exciting.

Is anyone able to give me a brief update on developments as I can't seem to find anything other than hearsay in the last 5 pages of this topic. Whats actually been confirmed? Are there plans in the public domain bar the MTDP?

Many thanks.

Planning application has been submitted for the coaster, but no documents have been submitted yet, although these should be imminent.
Also seems from a post above that Thorpe Park have issued a statement confirming that B&M have been commissioned to build the 2012 coaster.
Planning application page is currently down.

Although no documents of plans have been uploaded, here is the Planning Application Overview. There is a press release from Thorpe Park's official website confirming that the coaster will be [s:y4ryhwgy]German, Polish, English,[/s:y4ryhwgy] Swiss manufacturer B&M.

As the biggest UK enthusiast community, we need to be ready for this.

If this is a spinning seat 4D B&M, this will be absolutely massive. It'll be by far the most attention the UK will has ever had or will ever get probably. The eyes of the entire world-wide community will be on Thorpe Park for what is probably the most important development in the coaster world this decade.

Why does it beat the likes of Air and Oblivion?

Air had a much more exciting US counterpart that opened a few weeks later, that US people could follow construction of. Oblivion maybe, but there wasn't as much of a community in 1998. And no-one expected it to break into the Mitch Hawker top 10 or anything.

I think most people who have ridden X2 would agree with me that if the coaster got rid of the "Arrow problems" (roughness, roughness, ROUGHNESS) that blight it then it'd be easily the best coaster in the world, no doubt. So now we have probably the best coaster concept ever, being taken on my the bes company known for perfection.

I think the release of the layout plans should give some indication as to what kind of ride system it will be.
I think for a 4D the layout will be simpler than if it is a standard wingrider / floorless etc.
I have a strange feeling we are going to get a something very similar to Raptor (X Raptor?, has the X been dropped?), or a floorless. For a prototype design, I think 2012 would be a little to soon to take those designs to 4D, they would need to see how the standard wingrider trains perform over time first.

LOL, every time we get a sniff of a new rollercoaster we all over react! Spinning 4D Launched Standup, whatever next! Then, we are ALL disappointed when it is none of the above.

I know we love to speculate, but lets all take a chill pill and pray we are lucky enough to at least get this latest Raptor configuration. That in itself would be the best thing to happen in this country since Air.

Anyone think they will aim to go for a record with this, perhaps a tag line of world first, i dont know what it would be for that but we only have to look at Saw to see how far they will go to add a WF tag line,

I think the 4d element will be saved for AT, 2 years later will be perfect for B&M to amend the design
