I'm sure islander wouldn't want to put his links in jeopardy.

But it is an indoor miniland...

Hi guys,

It has been a long time since I posted here, but I am really excited as we have booked a pirate room for the opening night. My family do not know, as it is a Christmas present. This year has had a lot of experiences - Splash Landings at Christmas 2010, our villa at DLP, Hotel Colloseo at Europa Park, the Ling Bao at Phantasialand for Easter, Efteling Bosrijk this summer, The Big Blue Hotel at Blackpool for the Illuminations and Grand Opening of the Blackpool Tower, and then some fun of course with Legoland and Chessington Halloween, followed by Splash Landings again for Bonfire Night at Alton Towers. It will be interesting to see how this new hotel compares.

You're missing the point of the educational areas - they're not there to necessarily be 'popular' or bring in more guests, they're there to be used for the park's educational programs, which won't (I seriously hope) end any time soon. They are very popular with local schools etc.

And with kids. My 8 year old has been to Disneyland, DCA, Knott's Berry Farm, Legoland California, Universal Studios California, San Diego Zoo, Sea World San Diego, Mk, Epcot, DHS, DAK, Sea World Orlando, Legoland Windsor, Chessington, Drayton Manor, Alton Towers, Legoland Discovery Centre Manchester, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Port Aventura, DLP & WDSP (20 odd times), Parc Asterix, Europa Park, Phantasialand, and Efteling. His fav?  Legoland Windsor. And his favorite attraction there is the Lego Mindstorms workshop, every time. There is an audience. Just as we would never go to Thorpe Park as it is not for us, there are many who do not get Legoland either.

I know it's not yet been completed but I do think the outside of the hotel looks very bland compared to others? I'd have thought with it being Legoland it would have been a bit more bright and colourful?  :|

^Think you've made the salient point, though - it's not finished yet. Colour, Lego elements etc. will the the last thing to be added, so give it a chance :P

**NEWS ALERT** The Force is coming to the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort! In March 2012 we'll be opening our brand new indoor Star Wars Miniland Experience which will recreate seven of the most famous scenes from the Star Wars films!! We'll be revealing details about the scenes soon and we'd love to hear which are your favourites..!

Well, I find this to be a rather disappointing venture by Legoland :|

I'm not very much 'into' Legoland but they have removed the Rocket Racers attraction and replaced it with another miniland?  :| This seems to be like Legolands version of Japanese Spider Crabs in Sharkbait Reef at Alton Towers - we'll take out the good part i.e Rocket Racers (Stingrays) and replace it with something we've already got i.r Miniland (Spider Crabs)? -_-

I think it's an excellent replacement.

It may not be as good as the Rocket Racers but the ride was destined to close anyway. What has to be remembered is that Legoland is about Lego. These massive scale Lego scenes such as the Miniland are what the park's all about. The first Legoland in Billund ran for many years as just a Miniland.

Sure I'd like to see an actual ride replace the Rocket Racers but then I'm a theme park enthusiast, I like rides. If this turns out to be like the image above but on a larger scale I'm sure it will be hugely popular with kids. Well done Merlin for identifying the target market.

As a side note Legoland are opening a hotel this year so it was unlikely any other major projects were going to be green lit. I'd rather see something in this building than have it empty once more.

Heh. I think it sounds cool! It's not like the spider crabs at all, it's far more major than that. The Star Wars IP must have cost a fortune.

Miniland is really the best bit of LegoLand, it's what makes it different. It's nice to see it expand at the cost of a frankly poor attraction. If this is really well-themed it could be awesome!

In another piece of 2012 news, the park have released a video showing a sneak-peak of one of the 'Enhanced' Pirate rooms in the hotel - linky :)

They're like a 'younger child' version of the Splash Landings Pirate Rooms.

Sadly, said rooms at Alton cost an arm and a keg.
