There have been quite a few rumors of an "out and back" woodie which was meant to open this season. However most of these rumors stemmed from before the new owners took over.

This year, instead of opening Oakwood with its new planned coaster, Aspro (new owners) decided to open with no new rides (now the 3rd year running that the park has opened with nothing new at all), entirely cancel the extremely successful After Dark summer event, and still bunk ticket prices up by £2, the biggest price increase in Oakwood history.

There are no signs of construction at all at the moment, the park is starting to look quite run down, i doubt we'll get this new ride next year, i expect to see more cut backs from Aspro, and all i can say is- i want the old owners back :(

I was gutted when I heard they had cancelled the After Dark events.

I'll be taking my first visit to Oakwood this August and was looking forward to seeing Hydro lit up at night and with some night-time riding on Megafobia!

When I went to Oakwood a few years ago (2006/2007 maybe?) apart from Megafobia the After Dark events were the best thing about the park! Me being a ride-whore and my brother being a tolerant person (that or a long coastal walk with my parents) we did 2 days of 10 till 10 riding. The atmosphere at night was absolutely electric, the best time I've probably had in any park anywhere in the world. There's just something about the character of a small, woodland, un-corporate "homemade" park that gave it the perfect atmosphere in the evening. I doubt even Alton would surpass it if it opened till 10.

It was this that actually made me go back a second day, which I wouldn't usually do for a one-coaster-park as it was at the time. Oh and the fireworks display was magical, to Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now"! Bring this back.

An out-and-back woodie would be perfect for Oakwood, but how much land do they own? I was under the impression the park land is quite square shaped. but maybe it could curve in a semi-circle round the park then back again. It'd be nice to see them become the Holiday World of the UK, focusing on woodies to provide an 'alternative', more family atmosphere. I hate to say it but I don't think we've seen many modern woodies because the British public have a poor taste in coasters compared to the Americans. Maybe because they have a longer tradition of wooden rollercoasters, but the British public just seem to think anything that's not steel is crap. During the coaster wars of the 90's (Ultimate, PMBO, Nemmy, Shockwave) Megafobia got almost no attention despite being arguably the best of the bunch.

I have to agree. After Dark is what made Oakwood and what gave the park its character. Without After Dark, summers in Pembrokeshire just wont be the same.

I'd love to see Oakwood developed into a more unique park with woodies and more unusual rides like you suggested. I mean, Megafobia fits in so beautifully with the surrounding landscape.

It's such a shame that the new owners seem determined to strip Oakwood of all its character and uniqueness. After Dark was what made Oakwood in the summer months.

i thought there was solid evidence of a new attraction coming soon too and after speed costing a bit i dont think they will try to persue a world record holder with the next one just build a decent coaster that delivers on rep not gimmics like mumbo jumbo in flamingo land

Where did you hear the rumor about Bob Sleigh? It's been there a long time, but it's quite popular still i think. :? Although i've never been that tempted to ever go on it. :D

The Bobsleigh is one of the parks most popular attractions, I can't see it going anytime soon. Although it does have a horribly low throughput.

I don't think there is anything that would replace it so can't see it going any where. It's not really usable land.

:D :D

It's mostly on hill though which could make it tricky. I wouldn't be at all bothered if they did replace it, as you could say it's maybe a bit outdated for a park with more modern rides like Speed and Hydro.

Where did you hear these rumors?

How about a mack bobsled, seems like the perfect thing to replace the bobsled they have their already. It would be similar except, high capacity, more thrilling and more comfortable. :D

They need another decent sized family coaster. :)

That is the only thing I can see going there to be honest. That is affordable for Oakwood.

This is the thing with Oakwood, they have massive almost world class attractions like Megafobia and Hydro and other major rides like The Bounce and Speed, in a theme park full of what can only be described as fairground rides like bobsleighs and pedalos but in a nice setting.

Bit of an odd mix really but hey....

It seems they have a park with mega rides vs fairground attractions, they ought to add some quality family attractions like a log flume (why a park called Oakwood hasn't one of these beats me), rapids, mine train, haunted house (not tacky fun house). For a park of its size they should lay off on the thrills for a few years and focus on bringing together an excellent all rounder attraction.

:)
