I have to disagree Dylan! Without having been on Apocolypse, the Bounce is one of my favorite tower rides in the world. Firstly, the setting is simply beautiful, in a little valley in the woods. Secondly for some reason, it just gave me a massive kick that even taller shot towers haven't. I can't explain why, but I couldn't stop re-riding it. It just had such a charming, happy atmosphere around the ride. Oh and I love the name - it's bitchin'.

Who manufactured bounce? I've got a feeling it might be huss but I'm not sure.

I'm suitably impressed at the effort they're putting into the presentation of the ride, something that a lot of smaller parks (and some larger ones) don't seem very concerned about.

Anyway, I'm still hoping to finally get back to oakwood at some stage, this year if possible - its just so impractical to get to!

Whats going on with the family/children's rides that are supposed to be installed at oakwood for 2010? I'm sure it was mentioned on here that oakwood has received some small rides from other Aspro parks?

Not sure, but on the official Oakwood Facebook page, in reply to a question about new rides they say:

No new rides for 2010 but watch this space for 2011!

Since Oakwood opens this saturday and there's no mention of any new rides on the site, I'm pretty certain this is going to be another quiet year in terms of updates and installations.

However, to look on the bright side, we did see some pretty decent paint jobs and improvements around the park last year, admissions now looks alot smarter as does Cannosten Bowl. From what alot of park staff have hinted on the facebook page, it seems like alot of this has continued over this winter. Not quite a new ride, but i think everyone who visited lat year would agree that it was needed. A general park clean up would definitely be appreciated.

Even though it seems like Oakwood's been given up on a bit, i think Aspro must have some plans. If not, why buy a park that's running at a loss and have no intention of investing in it? This would be a bizzare move, so I really think something must be planned, albeit not on the scale of the previous owners' installations. I mean Speed and Hydro are pretty massive investments for such a small park.

they are not big investments in a park that has to compete with other theme parks they just need to hide their rides better like megaphobia you can see the first drop but its disguised a bit hydro is in your face fear and speed you can see exactly what the ride is going to put you through their next ride needs to accelerate through the woods

I went to Oakwood today and was disapointed with what was going on i see gaps all over the park for rides. The soccer thing wasnt open and the pirate ship could do with a friend like a topspin variant.
I also see the water slides and snake river falls being changed for low staff running low maintanance rides like a log flume to replace snake river falls and a station for a launch coaster aimed at treetops looping round speeds queue if you look at the field behind megaphobia you see potential.

I also see a retheme for new orleans including a removal of spooky3D it simply is out of date new 3D technology means either a laser battle style horror ride and put the mine train back as intended also the space behind 3d could become a big fear filled ride height is not important twist are what are missing. we see a bit of it from speed but speed is all about disorientation.

Each ride should have a definate theme: Hydro is water, Megaphobia is wood and Bounce is a deception of not being as tall as it is becouse of the hole.

Speed has no theme its orange stands out and has the latest radio hits playing there is no pre build up or atmosphere you head to the ride seeing everything prehaps a new direction on the queue path because the have space behind speed for long rides they also have a field in the front which could be used.
If you look at what the train it could be removed or redirected towards the new attractions i like the idea of no walk to the rides.

Does anyone think that there should be a blanket theme for the park that every ride should relate to in a slite way such as a military testing facility where speed is the new jet fighter, hydro is the improved jetboat and bounce is a escape feature and then any ride would have no problem being themed into the park because as everyone knows ride technolegy is improving all the time?

I noticed today that the second row on hydro was not being loaded and the wave didnt reach the bridge.
I also nticed that the staff in the park were not enjoying themselves and just looking miserable which also brought the park atmostphere down i went to alton towers the other day and even the runaway mine train (treetops in alton) was made more enjoyable becouse of the banter coming from the ride operators.

I got to say there has been a clean up of the park. and when i asked whether there was a new ride next year I dont know but there is talk of a family ride not a thrill seeker ride i also see mechandise everywhere saying ride the big 4 to which I think if you want rep put down ride the big 5 and have people talking rather than turning up next year and going whats that a new ride I didnt know anything about it to which is bad marketing and if your building a new ride say soon because it doesnt take a genius to know building hype bring punters through the gates look a thirteen if you want an example.

I also read that the old owners had a second woody designed and paid for ready for 2008 but they didnt install it becouse of the sale to aspro to which are very keen to turn oakwood very corporate with aspro on everything instead of oakwood.

Please feel free to agree or disagree with these comments and if you work at the park please say so.

I agree with many of those points. We visited two weeks ago and while Hydro was Running at full pelt some of the other attractions seemed very run down.
I'm worried at the Theme Park branding, it's still an adventure park in my eyes, it would be too costly to change the Theme now, it's going to have to be done over time and while they haven't even started yet I don't like the way its being advertised as a theme park, although the GP probably wouldn't notice the difference.
I noticed Techniquest has gone. It's been moved next door into Blue Stone and nothing has replaced it.
The show building in children's kingdom is closed and the ball blower park has been moved. It just seems like they are compacting everything to save on staffing levels.
The park was nice enough, some of the staff seemed to lack motivation, I was disappointed with the Chart hits on Speed but as there's no Theme it doesn't really matter.
I had an issue on Bounce with a ride op, when my boy wanted to get off (changed his mind) and the op didn't want to let him off as raising the harnesses tends to cause a break down. So?
Only time will tell, Aspro have had their settling in period, they need to kick start some investment now. It's nice enough as it is but needs to keep up with the rest of the UK at least.

Hi
I just went to oakwood today for my second time, and I must say I did not like bounces new paint job. the last time I went I went on bounce the most but this time the first time i went on it it fired all the way to the top and then stuck! we were at the top of bounce for about half a hour.
I did find that the staff were very friendly though and helped out the best they could.

Interesting! I didn't know that was possible. I presumed because it was a shot tower then there was nothing to be able to keep the car held at the top?

Although I enjoyed myself on my first visit to Oakwood last weekend, I fail to see any future for it with it being located in such a terribly out of the way place.

hi
I asked the mechanic when we got down and he said it was an automatic stop as the program witch monitors the ride detected a fault!
he also that it was magnets which stopped it.

Having never been to Oakwood I'm in no real position to comment, but being out of the way and difficult to get to certainly hasn't stood in the way of a certain much better known UK park's success!

I'm hoping to get down there this year. It doesn't look too special, and with nothing new having been added for a few years some investment is definitely needed, but it looks like it's worth a visit just to try Megafobia.

When I was at Oakwood in April this year, I was chatting to the Ride Ops on Megaphobia, and they informed me that management were taking a group of the staff to Thorpe Park for the day in May...wonder why that was? ;)

Everyone was in good spirits the day I was there though, apart from the staff on Speed, they seemed a bit miserable, and weren't going too fast with their loading procedures!

Awesome park though, its worth a visit just for Megaphobia front row and Hydra!

Next Trip - No Idea!

Presuming you are talking about Alton Towers, Alton is very easy to get to and close to many major motorways and big cities compared to Oakwood! It's an hour to Swansea let alone Cardiff, Bristol etc.

It is only 30 mins or so from the M4 and in a very popular tourist area, so its not 'out of the way' people flock to west wales in the summer months and that is obviously why it is there and been operating for tourists for years

I'm guessing you work there? So take in to considerdation that every park in the country has had something new to pull in the guests. This park works with the bare minimum of staff and quite obviously is scraping the barrel.

Look at Alton Towers: OK, I live within an hour of Oakwood, but what makes me want to go back to Alton the atmosphere. I was at Oakwood the other day and all I saw were 16 to 17 year old operating rides with the attitude of "this place is rubbish I dont want to work here".

Don't work there, would be a bit of a long commute from London. Just think it is a good little park. Whenever I have visited the staff have always been friendly and helpful, which is pleasant compared to Thorpe Park, which is close to me.

The park doesn't start to compare with Alton Towers.
