Wait a second... according to CF this coaster is costing £17.7m. How on earth is it costing this much?! What am I missing? :?

Sure it's not in euros? Wonder where they got that from, even with B&Ms prices. CF, as dodgy and unproffesional as their news section is these days, are normally reliable.

From what little I know of Asterix they theme heavily. The ride itself will be over 10million then there will be millions spent on theming it I would have thought. No point buying a HUGE B&M Invert and doing nothing with it.

Unless you run Walygator!

This looks like it could be very good though and they have made a very early start on construction. There is either a hell of a lot to construct or they may have started early in case of another very cold winter which may cause delays.

Parc Asterix don't put much in, but when they do it is good quality. The theming in parts of the park is top quality. The mad house, for example, has brilliant theming. As does several other areas, including the Viking village!

That looks even more interesting than in the plans.

I think I've said this before but well done B&M for designing such an interesting first element. Keep this up and they’ll lose the reputation for samey, by the book layouts.

Why do you do this, B&M, why? You spend years turning out the same old crap, and then when you do something interesting, you do amazing things like this.

What an interesting start, hope they don't ruin the secod half in traditional B&M style.

I half agree with that. Yes the Batman copies are annoying but they have turned out some fantastic coasters in recent history. Hence the reason everyone rates them so highly.

It is wrong to write them off with their "traditional B&M style" because they are only doing the things that they are good at for example interlocking corkscrews.

No one moans at Vekoma for their Boomerangs or SLC's. Infact B&M's Batman has helped put some parks on the map.

I can't speak for Blaze but whenever I moan about B&Ms reusing the traditional B&M style copying isn't the issue. If you're a medium size park on a budget (Drayton Manner for example) and you're after the cheapest B&M possible I see nothing wrong with a Batman Clone. If there's a demand B&M should sell them.

My issue is when they go to the effort of designing a completely unique ride but just use the same sequence of elements. I mean they've gone to all the effort of redoing the calculations and end up with practically the same ride experience.

This is why it’s so great to see a park like Asterix doing something really different.

That is also what I mean. The Batman clones are great, and as they were the first ones, they can hardly be called unoriginal. My issue is all the floorless and inverts that followed, that follow almost exactly the same succession of elements that the originals did in the early 90s. You'd have expected them to try something new every now and then rather than just swapping the order of the zero-g and imelmann and overlapping the wingovers.
