Colossos should be number 1 - it's awesome!

Black mamba;s a pretty worthy winner though...

TTF Euro Coaster Poll 2011-12: Coasters Released

Tue Nov 29, 2011 6:58 pm

Fifth Annual TTF Euro Coaster Poll 2011-12

You thought it would never come... but it is finally here - and better than ever.

Following some hard work from Chris with the technical side of things, I am now grouping coasters into their sets for the 2011-12 Poll which will be the fifth year of action and hopefully the biggest yet!

This year, in order to make voting fairer and more transparant, voters will asked to place the rides in rank order!

I will be revealing the complete list of 100 coasters on or before Sunday, 4th December. This will then be an opportunity for you to view the list, and check of any anomalies before the fun begins on Sunday, 11th December.

This year, due to the late starting of the poll, and Alton Towers' February opening being earlier than usual, it is likely to run into March 2012.

Without sounding like a moaner, in order to save me time, the voting threads for each of these earlier rounds will now only feature the ride name, model type and manufacturer and a link to the RCDB page for that ride. You would not believe how long it actually has taken to arrange links, photos and video onto the forum for each of the 100 coasters. Especially in my job, I just can't spend hours on each group like I once did. Therefore, this year - the onus will be on YOU to make yourself more aware of the rides. You will especially need to do this because every ride will be ranked in order! Voting for the 'one you have heard of' is a thing of the past!

I am really looking forward to this years poll, hopefully it'll give us a far better representation of what TTF really think of Europe's finest - and with the likes of Ben 10, Dizz, Die Schlange von Midgard, Freishutz, Shock: The Steam Machine, Krake, Max Adventures Master Thai, Raptor, Skatteoen, Timber Drop, Twister and Vicky The Ride ALL debuting in Europe this year, it could be a year of big changes.

The 100 rollercoasters will once again be sourced based on performance in the most recent Mitch Hawker Poll. Then, the new coasters above (if I have missed any, please let me know) will be added in. In the event of a coaster being too low in the Hawker Poll to qualify, yet it finished inside the top 20 on last years TTF Poll - it will be included (hey, Space Mountain Mission 2 fans, I am talking about you here!).

If you any questions, please post inside this thread OR send me a private message!

Can Black Mamba hold on...

Fantastic new system! I think it's going to really improve the poll, and fair enough about the pictures. Hopefully these two changes will sort out some of the country bias we've seen in the past.

I've been waiting for this for ages, thought it would never come!

Let's just get the innevitable out of the way...The Ultimate for number 1!

Oooh! Now this could be interesting to see how the results differ from previous years. ;) But I think I speak for many when I ask the important question... "Will Great Yarmouth's Rollercoaster be included this time?"

Anyway, I look forward to seeing what The Ultimate european coaster turns out to be.

Woohoo! Thanks Dan - for me this is the highlight of the TTF closed season and I actually initially registered here so I could join in.

I really hope this new method encourages people to vote for a coaster they perhaps considered - I always thought it a shame when it seemed people saw a coaster, and voted for it without further looking at the alternatives. I think it's fine to vote for a ride (eg The Ultimate) if you have truly studied the others, weighed up the pros and cons and come to an informed decision, but blind voting without consideration kind of voids the point of this, and it becomes not very interesting. I think the ranking will force people to think more about them, so good idea.

Question - do we have to rank all ten? If so, are we able to give two coasters equal weighting, for example 5, =6, =6, 8, 9?

I think Raptor will be the only new addition this year to make the top 20, but think I'll initially be supporting the incredible-looking iSpeed. For me there are few other coasters that look as interesting and well paced, but I look forward to hearing counter arguments.

:D

Excellent news! With all the new coasters and an entirely new ranking system this should be very different from last year. Thanks once again for sparing Space Mountain.

I’m thinking Blue Fire or Raptor to win.

Edit: I too would like iSpeed to get some attention.

Thanks for running the poll again -  I expect big changes with the new voting method, and it should make a big difference in the early stages.  It'll also make ranking the bottom 50 much easier - no more coasters with 0 votes!

I still expect a bias towards more well known coasters - primarily those in the UK and Disney/Europa etc, but at least the requirement to rank all 10 means people at least have to consider the ones they haven't ridden.

You cannot give more than one coaster the same points, and you have to rank all ten  :)

Oh, there will always be a bias. As long as people accept that others have a different bias to them, there shouldn't be a problem. *passes round the peace pipe and tries to start afresh this year*

All you have to do Dan is delay the poll a few more weeks. Hold the last round after it’s opened and add it as a last minute 11th coaster to the finale.

Everyone will have just been on it and it’s a guaranteed win ;)

Yay fantastic to see this returning! I know how much hard work Dan puts into this so it is a real bonus during the closed season.

You've got to think Blue Fire and Black Mamba will remain towards the top. I can see Raptor doing well, and I personally would like to see Katun have a strong year. There's so many great coasters though that could easily make the top 10 and I'm sure my votes will be slightly different this year having experienced more coasters in the USA meaning I can make comparisons to similar European coasters.

Thanks in advance though to Dan, I'm sure it will be great fun!

Maybe the United Kingdom didn't get Alternative Vote, but I'm hella glad that the coaster poll has! :D

Brilliant, my favourite bit of TTF is back. I can't wait for all the fun over Christmas! I <3 the coaster poll, long live AstroDan! :D

TTF European Coaster Poll 2011-12
List of qualifying rollercoasters.

As usual, the rollercoasters are entered into the poll, for the most part, by virtue of their position on the acclaimed Mitch Hawker (Best Coaster) Poll, which takes place every year. However, any rollercoaster that finished inside the Top 20 of the TTF Poll during the previous years poll also qualifies regardless of their position on the Hawker Poll. Then, there are also a number of rollercoasters entered which are new, and therefore have not yet appeared on the Hawker Poll.

I have also included Dragons Fury and Tarantula, both Maurer Spinning Coasters, which do not get their own entry in Hawker. However, I feel both warrant one here. Coasters that have not operated in 2011 are not included, such as Turbine at Walibi Belgium and Xpress at Walibi Holland.

If anybody has any feedback on the new coasters, please let me know. Coasters that just missed out on the poll this year are Falken (wood), Jubilee Oddysey, Minetrain Ulven, Skywheel, Cobra and Matterhorn Blitz. If any of the “new” coasters are removed, then they would enter by the above order. Please give me your feedback.
This year, the following coasters have successfully been included in the poll. The list below is random in order and when the poll begins in 1 week, they will have been split into 10 groups of 10 for Round 1.

Seems fine to me. I'm surprised Matterhorn Blitz didn’t make it but it is a fairly standard Wild Mouse (Ignoring the lift) so no great loss.

Good call with Dragons Fury and Tarantula. MH really needs to start excepting unique Maurer Spinning Coasters. I can't understand why Crush's Coaster and Winjas have their own entry when the two above don't.

Boo for the exclusion of Jubilee Odyssey - as ever a victim of people not having been on it.

I understand the reasons why it isn't on the list and am not having a go, but it still looks like a joke when you see some of the things that are on the list.
