Powerpark

Tue Mar 31, 2015 4:51 pm

I believe this project has been known about since last year, but with vertical construction now well underway I thought it would also be worth a mention here!

Image

Junker is due to open at Powerpark in Finland later this year, and is a launched Infinity Coaster (with Karacho style trains) being manufactured by Gerstlauer. The launch will see riders reach a speed of 62 mph in 1.9 seconds, before going through a top hat, dive loop, vertical loop, another dive loop and corkscrew, as well as some other twistiness. I think that the majority of the layout will be above a body of water, although this has obviously been drained at the moment to allow for construction.

Image

Powerpark have set up two webcams to follow construction progress:
Webcam #1
Webcam #2

If you do post any updates on progress using images from the webcam, please remember to upload them and not directly link the live feed, as this will cause confusion when looking back through posts at a later date!

So here's how construction currently looks; the vast majority of supports are already in place, with the track of the top hat's exit having also been erected.

Gerstlauer have REALLY uped their game in the last 6 or 7 years. They are starting to install some really world class rides, such as The Smiler, Karnan, Takashiba and now this - well done to them! Looking forward to what else they have up their sleeves!

I'll let Adz point out the quality of Takabisha, but I'd agree Owen, the Infinity Coaster model is extremely good and has been well received. High speeds, forceful, exciting, I'm looking forward to seeing how this and Karnan turn out, with them both being Infinity models :)

Not the best image, but some of the track under the bridge is now in place as well as some other supports.

Unfortunately Webcam 2 seems to be stuck on a still from a few days ago, however the top hat entrance has since been erected, as shown in this image from Gerstlauer's Facebook.

I believe they've now completed the first two inversions (in the top right corner).

The post-MCBR overbank has been fully erected, as well as the exit from the dive loop and following corkscrew.

Wow I'm surprised by how big this coaster is turning out to be, it's huge! I'm a fan of its big swooshy elements, it reminds me a little of Karacho at Tripsdrill, which rides really nice and smooth unlike Takabisha, as mentioned above, in my experience of course.

I guess I'm a fan of Gersty launchers. I enjoy Lynet and I really have a soft spot for Anubis, which despite been quite small and cute really kicks some serious butt, I always end up riding it too much causing seepage of essential brain fluids.

A few more sections of track went up today, including the entrance to the MCBR and the transition between the twisty hill and dive loop. Some photos of the trains being delivered have also appeared here.

Well the dive loop track is now all in place, although unfortunately Gerstlauer have made a similar screw up to The Smiler and it doesn't fit properly...

From what I can tell from the webcams, it looks as though Junker's track has been completed.

Powerpark certainly aren't wasting any time, as Junker is now testing!

The water as well around it is pretty cool. Like you said they aren't hanging around.

Here's 3 videos of Junker testing, taken from different angles. Looks like there'll be some hang time on the Norwegian loop, but otherwise the pacing looks fairly good.

That final barrel roll looks rough, typical Gerst! But I think they win the award for most creative track layouts and inversions!
Looking good :)

Here's a video from some local media featuring an on-ride POV starting at about 2:56. Looks fairly good, and there doesn't seem to be any noticeable jolts which is a plus.

I couldn't see any noticeable jolt, but from the heart line onwards is incredibly shaky, looks as if the car is either rattling or vibrating, but I'm hoping maybe that's just the impact the ride has on the camera used.

The station is incredibly generic, but I love the track and cars, especially the lap bars, which I think would improve The Smiler massively :)
