Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach General Discussion

Nearly half a century after it first opened to the public, Blackpool Pleasure Beach has closed one of its longest rides on a permanent basis.
The park’s Monorail has operated every year since 1966 – although the visitor experience has changed numerous times as Europe’s first commercial monorail system.
In the early days, the Monorail acted merely as a transport system with views of the Irish Sea, with three stations at the Casino Building, the seafront (now Ocean Boulevard), and the Overpass. However, only the final station has been in use for the last decade meaning the Monorail was more a ride than a useful mode of transport.
Also leaving the park this year will be Holiday Rock FM, the Pleasure Beach’s independent music variety station which hosts announcements and various music tracks for the 42-acre amusement park. With both the departures based around the Overpass, it is believed they will make way for a Wallace & Gromit ‘miniland’ to coincide with the rethemed Gold Mine ride next year.

I wonder if they will add another attraction to the freedom pass ticket?

I saw that they've confirmed this. Odd that there were so many rumours if nothing was planned, unless something was planned and they changed their minds. Wonder what'll happen to Grand Prix.

Bottom line is they NEED a new major coaster (not one thats been transported half an hour down the road!).

I think something along the lines of Maverick being put where the Tom Sawyer bridge is would be good.

It wouldnt suprise me if they just go and buy Knightmare from Camelot though!

Blackpool Pleasure Beach All Time Greats - Which Ride Would Win?

Wed Nov 28, 2012 4:42 pm

Ok so Nemesis won the Alton Towers All Time Greats last year in August so I was wondering which ride would get your vote for the Blackpool Pleasure Beach All Time Greats? Here are the list of rides to choose from :
The Big One
The Big Dipper
Valhalla
Grand National
Infusion
Get voting now! :D

Blackpool is a more difficult one to judge than Alton Towers. All of Towers' coasters in that poll are modern B&M or Intamins so were easily comparable. However, comparing modern coasters like Infusion against old classics like Big Dipper isn't comparing like for like.

I'd say overall, The Big One gets my vote because it's just so iconic, not just of BPB, but also iconic of Blackpool as a town. It's the modern icon of Blackpool, the 20th century's equivelant to the Blackpool Tower and is great for non riders both inside and outside the park. It's also a fun ride  :P

The Grand National is also a great ride, really intense and total fun. To ride, I'd say it probably beat PMBO, but my vote would still be PMBO for the sheer height, size, speed and appearance of it.

This is probably a really controversial thing to say on an Alton Towers forum, but I actually think that BPB has a better collection of coasters than Towers does, alot more fun anyway. But that's just my opinion.

To summarise, Big One  :D

Any chance of making this a proper poll? You can edit the first post to add one.

I'd say Valhalla hands down. Best water ride I've ever been on. Just a shame Blackpool is often too cold to enjoy it. Not sure what I'd put after that. I enjoy the Grand National, Revolution, Wild Mouse and Big One but am not really sure what order I'd put them in.

The only ride to give me two broken ribs. To be fair they were unknowingly cracked at the time. Whatever.

Grand National!

Please remove Big Dipper and add Revolution, as that ride is much more thrilling.

If I have to vote though, I would vote for The Grand Nash, it also runs like butter at night aswell.

Grand National, I have fond memories of screaming like a Jimmy Saville victim on this ride.

I'm going to say PMBO. Whilst it's not my preferred ride on the park, it has brought a lot to the resort. Considering it held numerous records when it first opened and contributed to 1994 being a year to remember for enthusiasts in this country, it only feels right to give it the title.

Voted for Grand National, one of my favourite rides. Imo the best ride atm at Blackpool Pleasure Beach is the Wild Mouse, a real airtime gem! :D    (Bit rough for some!!)

When you did this poll you should have added every coaster to the list as my fav is the Avalanche.
