Interesting that they remain below EP even though the park is now open year round.

It does not seem year round opening has boosted their figures?

I would guess its because they added a show this year. This is total speculation, but I imagine a good show contributes much more to raising the return visitor rate and the guest satisfaction than getting new visitors through the gates, like a rollercoaster would. :)

Time for Efteling related news :)

The teaser of Aquanura has been released to the fan community:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mfGLOdjt_c&feature=youtu.be

Aquanura changes more...

Opening times are still the same as last year ( till 6 PM off-season and till 8 PM during the Summer). In the Summer, the area around Aquanura will remain open till 10PM (Bobbaan, Fata Morgana, Pandadroom and the surrounding restaurants.

Speaking of restaurants, due to Aquanura, the Steenbok and Oase are currently being renovated:

Image
(picture Jeroen_Twee)

Maybe there is now only one restaurant left which has remained untouched in the past ten years, the Welkom/Globetrotter building in Reizenrijk, but that one is already on the nomination list for major refurbishments as well as Het Witte Paard in Marerijk.

According to looopings.com (usually correct), Aquanura will be opened live on Dutch national television on 31 May. Probably for marketing purposes as they luckily seem to realize that it is hard to sell a 'fountainshow' to people who have never experienced one of this magnitude before in real life.

Other matters:

Polle's Keuken has opened for guests, for many pictures of the interior go to Eftelist: http://www.eftelist.nl/a_hhpolleskeuken.html

The cover of the 60th Anniversary book ('Are we there yet') of two kids in the backseat of a fifties car, that will be released on 31 May, has been presented. In my view, it's gorgeous...

Image

Although the book is supposedly picture-heavy, so not speaking Dutch would not matter too much, I don't think there will be an English version. Maybe there is a slight chance as I saw in the webshop that the 'Efteling book of Fairytales' has been released in English as well.

Loving the fountain.

I've seen dancing water displays before although never on this scale. They make an excellent show for most ages and I really wish Alton would set something like this up. Ideal they would use the lake in front of the towers but I'm guessing the water isn't clean enough.

I'm glad parks are finally noticing these displays potential.

Oh YES! They're using the Danse Macabre! I hope it makes it into the main show! Oh I'm so delighted, it's one of my favourite pieces of classical ever!

Gutted that it opens two months after my visit though. :(

It looks stunning. I cannot wait to see this some day.

I wonder if the show will run in Efteling Winter? As my next trip should be during Christmas/New Year 2012/13.

Yes, it is designed to run 365 days/year  :)

Sam, Danse Macabre has already been confirmed, just as African Beat (used in the fairytale of the Indian Waterlilies), Carnaval Festival, Raveleijn and Villa Volta (non-limitative list). The music will be remixed, just as the used version of Danse Macabre in the video, to fit better to the possibilities and limitations of a fountain display. The over-arching soundtrack will be 'Sleepy Lagoon' by Eric Coates (used in the fairytale of the Magical Clock).

British people should be familiar with "Sleepy Lagoon" as the theme to Radio 4 show Desert Island Discs. :)

I hope they also use music from De Vliegende Hollander!

I miss out on this fountain show by 2 months. Is it extremely sad to consider planning another trip just to see it?  :?

I hope to go to Efteling as part of next New Year, I think it'll be worth going especially when the water show will be on in darkness.

I would first wait and see what Aquanura is going to be like. I would also opt for a nighttime show, if you have the choice. According to the German Efteling website, the area around Aquanura will remain open till 10:00PM. So, late Summer would also be fine.

An aerial photo of the construction site:
Image

The Aquanura website now states that the show will contain nine different types of fountains of which four are unique. WET itself has stated that Aquanura will be a watershow 2.0 Given their previous work, this is surely building expectations. I hope they don't take it too far though...

In the mean time, Polle's Keuken has rapidly emerged as the park's most popular restaurant. Even on the most dreadful weekdays in February, the place was packed. Luckily, it is now possible to make dining reservations in advance via the website.

Additional theming for the realm of fantasy:

My Latin ain't that good, but it is supposed to mean something like: "Fantasy travels limitless, and is not bound by time" (somewhat direct translation from Dutch of course). This is a quote from the creator of Pardoes.

Carnaval Festival's Jokie update has been completed. The 'new' ride:

The old and new shop, souvenirs for toddlers in a stroller proof environment:

And a trailer for the new Jokie tv-series:

Furthermore, Pandadroom has been given an update. There is a new pre show and the movie's sountrack has changed.

Steenbok and Oase' refurbishments are under way:

And Fata Morgana's refurbishments are also still under way:

Probably you've asked yourself by now: was this all Efteling news? Nope...

The Efteling Summer Nights are going to be revamped, which was already known, but now there are more details. The name is going to change to: 'Seven Square Fest'. As the name already suggests, festivities will be divided between seven squares in the park. Hopefully, this will mean that the call for more diverse entertainment and the non-return of the massive main stage will be answered.

Some Hartenhof rumors are still coming up regarding the delay. Two of them are ones which come from usually well-informed people. The first is that Vekoma has been requested (demanded) by Efteling to raise the capacity of the transportation system, which apparently takes them two years to redesign and the second one is that Efteling has ordered a new system (by another manufacturer?) with a two-year term of delivery after they cancelled the deal with Vekoma due to the 'fight on capacity'. The two rumors are not totally mutually exclusive...

Quick question for those of you in the know about Efteling. Do they have a New Years Eve event and is it any good?

They had one last year, but it is not for sure already if it will return this year... On the German Efteling website, this is staten on New Year's Eve:

"Die Sonderöffnungszeiten Silvester 2012/2013 werden rechtzeitig mitgeteilt."

meaning that it is not known already. I suspect that it will only be announced somewhere around November/early December.

Well, was it good last year?

Cliché, but it depends a whole lot on what you expect. Don't expect NYE Disney style. Last time, multiple stages and entertainment venues were in use for all kinds of entertainment, ranging from bands playing sixties music to contemporary party music. While being really crowded, we sure had a lot of fun and most people had so as well. For an impression, including the fireworks, see:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xMr28mUSGY

I'm not sure though on how to perceive this from a foreigner's point of view. If that really matters of course, but I have the feeling that it does matter.

Time for another Efteling update :)

Yesterday, Polle's Keuken officially opened. A very nice video report of this event was made by Efteling fan site 'De Vijf Zintuigen', including some nice close ups and overview shots of the place, can be found over here:

http://www.devijfzintuigen.nl/verdiepen/Kort%20Nieuws/4411-DVZ-Reportages-Nationale-Pannenkoekdag---Polles-Keuken-geopend.html

The odd looking guy with the red hair in the video is the mascot of Polle's Keuken (Polle...)

In addition, the Steenbok ('the Ibex'; does that make sense, I've never heard of the English term ibex before?) refurbishments are almost complete. It has now been turned into Bobsleigh Club 'the Ibex'. Fences have been taken away:

Just a small update, but a really nice one :)

Testing for Aquanura started a couple of weeks ago, but this week, someone took the effort to record a small portion of the nightly tests and put it on youtube. It is recorded from a public street behind Fata Morgana.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBrpRJ7tH-8&feature=player_embedded

These are the 'moderate' fountains of Aquanura in terms of height reached.

I hope everything has already been cleared out with the local authorities though, because people living as far as three miles from Efteling have witnessed a Northern lights festival up in the sky for days in a row now...
