i belive it has to be used for leisure means i did see something online that a shopping mall was looking into the land - But the local council have said it must be used for leisure.

Also who knew that the same company who owned the Blackpool Tower (Leisure Parcs) Part of Hemway used to own AA - Well when the AA closed the Tower got the cinema from it.

Then a few years later the tower got sold to the council. i,ll have a look online and see if i can find the thing about shopping mall for the site.

Well the council have made there decision for the site and Waystone got the go ahead to build on the former site and if they can rise funds a wildlife trust will have the lake area.

The garden centre/leisure facilities part, is that plan b for the new Decathlon site that was recently planned/rejected at Junction 26?

Whilst sifting through the planning website, can anyone remind me what happened with the planned Holiday Village, the planning application doesn't say refused. Did they withdraw it?

Imagine if they had built the holiday village, what would AA have been like today. Would it still be open, would they have invested in the park. One thing for certain is the Missile and Space Port would have gone anyway as the Entertainment complex would have been in its place. When Lightwater Valley applied for planning of their Holiday Village they did say that they may have to close the park long term as it wasn't viable, everyone sees that as a bloughing. But as AA mentioned the same in their Holiday Village Planning App, and then it did close down not long after it does make you wonder.
It also mentions that visitor numbers dropped from 650,000 in 1996 to 380,000 in 2000, and says that they heavily invested in new attractions to boost numbers but failed. I can't recall anything being built from 96 onwards apart from the Flying Island.

Also anyone remember the rumours about the Texas Tornado from Morecambe coming to AA at one point.

On another note, does anyone know what this would have been at the park. I don't recall any water slide type attraction.

Interesting application they have submitted, I thought the holiday village was rejected and that using the existing land for residential housing was not going to happen?

Not happy to see housing on the site but the rest of it looks ok, shame they won't have anything to remember the old park by like a statue or perhaps road names of the old park

They did withdraw the planning application after stiff local opposition.

The owners reverted to plan B which was to make it more younger family orientated and spent around £1m in the last few years on refurbishments, improvements, removals, and leases for a handful of rides from Zamperla.

The plan actually worked to an extent, visitor numbers improved marginally in its final year, but not enough to satisfy the banks and the money stopped. The rest is history.

The housing market in the Heanor/Ilkeston area is quite stagnant too so I don't think it's needed, well not anytime soon!

The only problem with large housing developments today is the builders usually have to allocate a set percentage of homes to social housing. Which has the potential to ruin any 'value' this lakeside estate could have.

Very true. I recently moved to the shipley estate and there is no social housing there,its so nice as all the houses look the same, however they tend to make social housing look bad from the start. Just treat them the same as the others!,

As I live in the Heanor area it would be a real shame to see this massive plot of land go to waste. I hope they do something significant with all that space
