i thought it had always been known it would be a robo arms on a track based system similar to the spiderman track system. I think people using the robo coaster name (which is what they called the standalone robo arms) has made some people think it would run on a roller coaster track but for last few years the rumour has been it would run on a spiderman style track and not a roller coaster.

Thanks for clearing that up :) . I thought it was strange that people kept calling it a Robo-coaster when it isn't actually a coaster. So Universal doesn’t hold the rights for a robotic roller coaster, simply a ride that uses robotic arms combined with a transit system, Interesting...

Whatever they do it sounds amazing!

Yes, its a busbar system so there isn't any traditional rollercoaster track or rollercoaster elements.

The confusion comes from the people who make it are called Robocoaster. I believe its a Robocoaster - G2, whereas the normal idea of their robocoaster system is the G3.
There is a lot of confusion with that exclusivity contract, it could be the case they only haveexclusivity on the G2.

Soft openings should be starting within a month, it seems that the only thing left to complete the the Forbidden Journey attraction. And based on the rumours, it could very easily become the best dark-ride ever made. (The Finale sounds epic! )

[spoiler:3to1sl1k]The rumours from "in-the-knows" suggest that it will be a battle with the dementors with: projections that simulate riders souls being sucked from them, liquid nitrogen to cool the air and dementor animatronics flying around the room on kuka arms.[/spoiler:3to1sl1k]

Nassal did Hogsmede (and Hogwarts?): http://www.nassal.com/
And I think American Scenic are involved with the ride: http://www.americanscenic.com/

I did see a list of all the companies involved once but I'd never find it again.

From Mugglenet.com:

Universal has released a photo of Potter stars Robbie Coltrane, Emma Watson, Matthew Lewis, and James and Oliver Phelps visiting the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park!

They visited the park this morning and will be getting a tour throughout the day. We've heard that they'll also be filming some promotional material in the park today.

It really does look amazing and can't wait to see it for my own eyes in August. I'm not a big big big harry potter fan, but seen all the movies and will be good to visit this area of the park. But am i the only one that's a bit worried to hmmm how small the "path" area is? Like... it might look to get a bit crowded very easily... i dunno... ?

Video now released of sneak peak. Looks better and better everytime I see it, the detail is too much for a theme park attraction :P Also get a sneak peak of the ride seats/restraints. Overhead restraints, does that mean we're not expecting a tame ride :P ?

Can't wait.
If you go down to the Towers today, you\'d better ride Th13teen. :P

Those seats don't look right...

They dont seem like they're attached to anything. I mean, theres no dropping floor for a start

There won't be a dropping floor, they are using a Magic Carpet system. (Basically the same thing used on Rip Ride Rockit and Haunted Mansion etc.)

The restraints do look similar to Air's, I think it could be cross between Air/Nemesis.

And I'd be surprised if there are inversions, it wouldn't be suitable for kids if there was.
It is overhead restraints because of the unexpected movements. A lapbar would mean the riders would injure themselves especially as a lot of the ride is in the dark. (wouldn't be able to brace themselves)

One dark ride and some shops is an almost obscene waste of $265 million.

Nice. I had been watching all this Harry Potter theme park stuff pretty passively and it was kind of all washing over me. Sure I thought, Hogwarts looks nice (although a bit daft the a load of palm trees in the foreground, considering a lot of the outdoors stuff is filmed in Scotland) and that dark ride sure does sound nifty. But to call what is essentially an area re-theme (ooooh, a bit like the Dark Forest for example) a 'new theme park' is pretty cheeky. $265 million is a truly eye watering sum of money.

This is even worse than DLRP's Toy Story Ugly&lowcapacity-Land project ultimately costing more than Expedition Everest (a ride which despite not having ridden, I would go as far as to call a masterpiece).
For some things there is no rational explanation. There is no way out. There is no happy ending to this story. Welcome to the unknown. Welcome to eternal darkness.

Welcome to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The Ride

Am I right in thinking that the video showed Duelling Dragons / Dragon's Challenge, rather than the new attraction?
I read somewhere that Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is still not ready for the preview's this week.
There was a photo further back in this thread showing the ride cars for the new ride, which do include overhead restraints though.

It definitely wasn't Dragon's Challenge :)

And I don't know if she was just saying it, but Emma Watson seemed to love the ride so I assume they got to ride it, even if it wasn't complete.

And in the states, for a company like Universal and an I.P. like Harry Potter, $265 is most certainly not a waste. Especially when the ride and area is/looks as high quality as it is, Spiderman cost over $100 and if they didn't think they could make this without huge profitability, they wouldn't have. This area or "theme park" will be and almost already is world-wide known.

The Forbidden Journey has been running but very limited amounts of people have been on it...

Expedition Everest is not a brand.

Although as staggering amount of money, the HP brand is so gigantic that they will quite easily justify it.

Everybody is talking about this!

Yes Universal have invested a lot but there is a huge potential of profit. Universal's accounts are dire and if Harry Potter under performs there will be major issues for Uni.

How much of the $265 million is going to Rowling and Warner Bros? I'd say a pretty high amount.
The dark ride has the potential to be the world's best dark-ride and surpass Spiderman.

This is a huge project, the theme is totally immersive and the quality of finish is fantastic.
You don't get this kind of thing without spending a lot of money.

I don't see it as a waste of money, I see it as a worthwhile investment for Universal and the theme park industry as a whole.

Based on the number of people in my brothers class at school who are begging their parents to take them, this will be an undeniable success for Universal.

It looks fantastic, and I'm thinking that I really need to get over there!

Today, the Forbidden Journey attraction was open for Team-Member previews. It was intended to last for 4 hours but was closed shortly after it opened.
Some staff rode it and one has posted a review online, you can find it at the below link.

Link

Its also copied below in case the above link dies.

[spoiler:jfplphfb]Warning: If you don’t want the ride spoiled, don’t read their description below. Also, since this was sent anonymously, we can’t verify its legitimacy.

“It’s a really good ride, a lot of fun, although I still think I like Spider-Man better. But my friends disagree.

“After walking through the castle rooms and listening to the pre-show with the movie characters, you go through the usual safety spiel and the sorting hat is there. It’s pretty funny and stays with the Potter theme through the safety info.

“Then you sit in chairs similar to the Incredible Hulk coaster (overhead harness) and the ride starts out slow. You fly out of the castle following Harry and Ron but it’s like you’re just watching a screen, like The Simpsons Ride while your seat bounces around. But then you sort of fly through a real forest and see both the screen and real props – sort of like the Spider-Man ride except it’s not in 3D.

“Before that you see the castle and a quiddich game. It’s all happy at first. The Weasley brothers fly in at one point and start throwing fireworks around you (a really cool effect) but then Draco pops in and sends you off-course pushing you toward the Forbidden Forest. Harry and Ron have to catch up with you.

“When you get to the Forest you realize Lord Voldemort is there and he is trying to get Harry and you’re inbetween them so you’re in trouble. So you avoid him and his henchmen and end up falling into the spider pit in the forest. Here’s where it really gets cool because there are animatronic spiders all over the place that you go around. After that you go further into the Forest and see dragons like in the movie. You are still being chased by Voldemort, but now you are spotted by a dragon (on a screen) and it flies toward you. You make some fast turns and suddenly there’s a huge animatronic dragon spitting fire. The fire is really hot but it misses you and hits Voldemort instead and sends him flying away, for now. But now you’re being chased by the dragon instead (back to screens). You fly past Hagrid’s giant brother, Grawp, in the forest and you think he’s swinging at you, but he saves you from the dragon by hitting it instead.

“Then you think you’re safe but suddenly Dementors come out and start coming after you. This takes you out of the Forest. Then while flying away you see a bunch of other characters and places from the movies. I think they tried to cram as much in as possible to make sure the fans see all their favorites. You see buildings and cities and a flying car.

“All of this time Harry and Ron are nowhere to be seen, but then suddenly Harry shows up and does the Patronus spell and sends away the Dementors, but that attracts the attention of Voldemort. You follow Harry and Voldemort battling back to the castle where Harry is able to defeat him.

“Then you finally get back to the castle where Hermione casts a spell to put you back down where you started.”[/spoiler:jfplphfb]

Of course this description could be false as the website's Twitter says:

Our anonymous source now says he made it all up and didn't ride. What's true? Worried about his job or a very good storyteller? #potterwatch

The whole land could be open tomorrow so we could see more pictures and info coming out then! :D
