#-o Why, oh why?

If it ends up being rethemed about 'Quidditch' then my god, what a disgrace.

The ride is meant to be keeping its Dragon theme, afterall, Dragons feature in Harry Potter. Rumours suggest they've only been removed to either be rethemedd to a more suitable image, i.e. more realistic in appearance. (Can you say realistic when referring to the appearance of a dragon? lol). Or, to prevent damage during the building works.

Reports seem to suggest it will be based around the dragon battling seen in the Tri-Wizard tournament contest from the goblet of fire book.

the wizarding world of harry potter

Sun Feb 01, 2009 7:11 pm

hey guys, i remember touching on this subject around 2 years ago when the park was initially planned as a stand alone attraction in canada,
well as you may or may not be aware, the wizarding world of harry potter is now well under way at universal orlando and will open in 2010, and from the concept art available so far, it looks like it wont dissapoint even the most hardcore fans,

here are some links to view the concept art, and a video of construction from park sleuth

*Topic Bump*

Came across these on youtube today. I found it quite interesting.

Part 1

They talk in the first part about the history of the Universal Orlando Resort and the theming of the 'theme park within a theme park', also what has happened to the Lost Continent land and the rides in that area.

Part 2

The Robo-Arm is discussed as well as other speculation over rides in the area. And they also talk about what may happen in the to-be Hogwarts Castle.

Although it all sounds dandy and as if this will be Universal IOA's biggest project, I'm very skeptical about it.

There is one thing that will be guaranteed will be attention to detail. Im looking forward to seeing the end results. They have a lot to live up too with Duelling Dragons, the original station was amazing. I hope they obtain the atmosphere within the station.

Brilliant documentary, Thanks for posting Rowe.

I wasn't really thrilled by the Harry Potter land but looking at some of the new stuff and watching my boys excitement while viewing that video has given me some optimism towards the project. Glad to see the shows of the lost continent are staying and we should see some nice new theming to Duelling Dragons ride area which really let the area down when compared to the amazing queuline theming.

Do you know what I really don't get?

If J.K.Rowling is British, the films are made in Britain and the films' actors are British, why is this 'theme park in a theme park' being made in America? Surely we should have been the ones to come up with this idea in the first place.

Woohoo! (clap clap clap) :D

Because... quite simply, if it was made here it would suck. :P

We don't have the space, Orlando is massive. They also have all the money. They also have amazing theming over there that really we cant pull off.

Seriously, I'm glad its over there... It would be completely catastrophic here!

There is so much work still to do. I'd be very surprised if this is open for Summer 2010.

I have my doubts whether Universal can pull it off successfully, its the dark ride which will make it or break it.

This is quoted entirely from a Florida newspaper article, Orlando Sentinel:

Fog and Robots to be part of Universal's Harry Potter World?

Universal Orlando has filed another couple of interesting construction notices tied to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

One is for a Finnish company, FogScreen Inc., to provide fog special effects. As the name suggests, the company specializes in creating nebulous, walk-through fog banks -- made out of ultrasonic waves and tap water -- on which images and videos can be projected. (Think the Davy Jones effect near the beginning of Walt Disney World's Pirates of the Caribbean ride.)

The second is an updated notice for work from Orlando-based theme-park-design company Austin 2 Paris Inc. The notice says the work is for "automata" -- the plural of automaton, which is a type of robot.

Urgh! Those yank women need to get laid and grow up! :P

I really couldn't care less about potter. however, I must admit this looks like a pretty epic addition to the theme park world.

Having seen that robo arm, I am now more convinced than ever that we do NOT need one at Alton. Think how unpopular Submission is... can you really see people wanting to go on one of these death machines?
The bit where they were used to throw cars around was impressive, though. I think that is their best use... theming, not as a ride.

Robo Arms are much more enjoyable than Submission...

Meep meep!

New details about Wizarding World coming September 15th
Warner Brothers and Universal Studios have long been quiet about the upcoming Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park in Orlando, Florida since they announced it two years ago.

Now though, it looks like some big details are about to emerge. As The Orlando Sentinel reports, Universal has been sending out invitations to various members of the press for an event in Orlando on September 15th...

From Mugglenet's homepage :)
About time too!

According to the new issue of First Drop, there will be a dark ride called Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Flying Unicorn will be renamed Flight of the Hippogriff, and Dueling Dragons will now be called Dragon Challenge.

I wonder if they have decided on this based based on the Disney Expo the week later, maybe to try and get in before Walt Disney World announces their rumoured Fantasyland Expansion and RFID stuff.

I'm going to Florida in August and I'm hoping the land will be open, I'd say its 50/50 at the moment. [-o<
