UK theme parks from another point of view!

Little Parks Together!

Sun Jul 20, 2008 9:59 pm

I was talking yesterday about how there are a number of small parks in the UK which, as individual visits, aren't the best. They often don't have many decent rides in them. However, if you were to take 2 or 3 of the best rides in each of the parks, and add them to make one park with around 10 decent rides, you'd actually have a FANTASTIC park! There are some brilliant rides across the UK in some of the smaller parks, and it's a shame that they don't get the recognition they deserve in a lot of cases - simply because they are hiding in a tiny park somewhere.

I would take the following:

Adventure Island
Rage

Camelot
Whirlwind
Knightmare

Fantasy Island
The Beast

Lightwater Valley
Ultimate

Loudon Castle
Twist & Shout

Paultons Park
Cobra

West Midlands Safari Park
Venom

Wicksteed Park
Rocky River Falls

In the above, we'd have a drop tower, top scan, looping coaster, log flume, family bobsled coaster, UK-record holding coaster, spinning coaster, more-than-vertical coaster and standard sit-down coaster. Add a few more rides to this mix and it would be fantastic!

What would you have? A good site to use is www.ukrides.info.

Yeah, I wasn't sure whether we'd say Oakwood is major or not... Kind of half and half. I discounted Drayton and Flamingo as they're pretty major really.

I think Flamingo and Oakwood are pretty similar on the 'major' scales. Both have two big rollercoasters, then several medium-size support rides...

I would like to nominate The Antelope at Gulliver's

I would add Jubilee Oddessy and Milenium Coaster from Fantasy Island, both great rides. :)

just because I'm bigging up my local park, I'd say Wipeout From pleasurewood hills. It's the Vekoma boomerang that was Missile at AA.

:D

I definatley agree with Venom from West Midlands Safari Park, gave me a reet shock :D

If your allowed to nominate rides from defunct Theme Parks, I'd nominate Nightmare Niagra and The Runaway Mine Train, both from the now non-existent American Adventure.

Niagra was possibly the best Water Ride in the UK at its peak, whilst I'm still yet to go on a Runaway Train which bettered the American Adventures in my opinion.

Yes, Nightmare Niagara remains the greatest log flume I have ever been on. What a pity it was torn down.

Wipeout would be a good addition, I remember when I first rode it as Missile, the G's were insane. Vekoma Boomerangs are becoming rare these days too.

Another decent one, which I forgot about is Black Fly at WMSP along with Breakdance on Blackpool's South Pier.

Could I add Stinger from Paulton's also. That's one of the coolest kid's rides I've ever been on. Smooth, quite long and also has some great airtime. :D

Wild RiverRafting at West Midland Safari Park is a fairly good small water rapids ride too, plus the Safari park's best theming. It is really quite good!

My "10 rides from small parks" park would be:

1 - Heisse fahrt from klotten- the ride surprised me , just a shame we won't be able to take the views

2 - trapper slider from fort fun - I love wiegand!

3 - whirlwind from camelot

4 - the ultimate from lightwater

5 - wipeout - pwh (really liked it when I went on a couple of months ago)

6- Hornets nest from lightwater (great spin n spew)

7 - donnerbalken from tripsdrill - tilt and drop tower

8- beelze bobs trail - asdventure island

9 - absolutely insane - fantasy island (Big bungee launch thing - was closed when I went last year, but want to go back)

10- Great yarmouths fun house, from before tthem turning out the lights!

so - 2 family coasters, one family+ coaster, and 2 thrill coasters, 2 great flats, a good tower, a nice dark ride and a fun house - pretty decent balance, although maybe swap trapper slider with a kiddie coaster (bottons queen bee perhaps), and absolutely insane with a kiddie idark ride (fantasy islands monorail)???

Astro's 1st post does stipulate UK parks lol

also noone wants "6- Hornets nest from lightwater (great spin n spew)" way more hassle than its worth spends more time down than open!

This topic reminds me of a topic on a forum I visited a good few years ago. If I had to do this from scratch, I'd probably say (note: some people may not like my choice, but hey  ),,

Coasters
Rage - Adventure Island (EuroFighter)
Klondike - Hayings Funland (Pinfari Looper)
Antelope - Gulliver's World (woodie)
Crazy Train - Codona's (IE Park Family Coaster)
Millennium Coaster - Fantasy Island (Vekoma Looping Coaster)
Jubiley Odyssey - Fantasy Island (Vekoma Custom SLC)
Wipeout - New Pleasurewood Hills (Vekoma Boomerang)
Knightmare - Camelot (Shwartzkoph)

Flat Rides
Dragon's Claw - Adventure Island (KMG Move It 24)
High Sierra Wagon Wheel - American Adventure (ex ride, themed ferris wheel)
Captain's Curse Pirate Ship - M&D's (ex Pleasureland Tidal Wave)
Alakazam - Pleasure Island (HUSS Flyaway, kind of enterprise)
Black Fly - West Mid's Safari Park (Fabbri Group Frisbee)
Black Pearl - Loudon Castle (A bit like a Ranger, was at alton in 1984)
Eagle's Claw - LightWater Valley (KMG Afterburn)
Navigator - Flamingo Land (Zamperla Disk-O)
Amazing Confusion - Fantasy Island (Mondial Ultra Max)

Tower Rides
Absolutely Insane - Fantasy Island (3 arm, 300ft reverse bungee)
Barnstormer - Loudon Park (S&S Shot'n'Drop, + themeing)
Venom - West Mid's Safari Park (Fabbri Group Drop Zone)

Water Rides
Nightmare Niagra - American Adventure (thee best Log Flume)
Rocky Mountain Rapids - American Adventure (probably the best Intamin built Rapids, but using the original 12 seater boats)
Hydro: Water's Revenge - Oakwood (Intamin Spillwater, just perfect for the park)
Moby's Revenge - M&D's (Water Slides)

That's my ultimate park, sound's just perfect!

Stop whinging! Some of us have lost our childhood local parks forever. Every time I see Dreamland it cuts me like a knife. When they set fire to that beutiful heap of timber, it was like they were setting fire to my very soul. I will never forgive you for what was so clearly an arson attack to free up the land. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! Thedistrict council are clearly convinced of it too. Why else would they ask for it to be rebuilt when they sanctioned the end of the site as an amusement park?
