Irrational Coaster Fears

Mon Jul 28, 2008 7:02 pm

This topic is for people to share their unusual worries that they are gonna die when on rides.

My main one is when I am on a launched drop tower such as Ice Blast, I always think the car is going to over-launch and fly off the top of the tower, killing everyone. Like in RCT where you set the speed too high and it shoots off the top.

I get REALLY nervous this is going to happen and my heart stops beating when the car reaches the apex of the tower :P

Another is on Air thinking the switch track before the tunnel isn't going to change properly and we all fall onto the ground with the weight of the car crushing us. Also I panic on Oblivion and any rollercoaster-in-the-dark like Space Invader that another car has valleyed in the dark and we will crash into it. I know, stupid ey? :P

I always think I'm going to swallow my tongue on launches. I start having mass swallow-sprees before the launch and pray I don't swallow at the wrong time. :P

Apart from that I don't think I have any.

I always get really scared on Coasters about, loosing my trainers whilst riding.

In the queue line for any Coaster, I always fasten my Shoes as tightly as possible, and spend half the time kneeling on the floor, making sure they won't fall off.

It's highly unlikely that my Shoes will catapult off during Air or Nemesis, but you can never be too sure :P.

I mean imagine the humiliation :(, you'd have to wear a plastic bag on your foot throughout the rest of the day, and everyone would stare...

I also hate the thought of loosing my Wallet or Phone :(.

But death-wise, I always worry that I won't be able to breathe, like on the launch of Rita, or Oblivion's drop. Then become unconscious, then die.

How irrational :P.

I never go on dark rides because i hate the fact that you can never see what is going on around you.
But if something did happen, you wouldn't know about it untill the last second which i suppose is a good thing.

And i used to always set the speed to high on Rollercoaster Tycoon when i was younger. And i also used to drop people in the sea! oops.

On Rita I have to hold my breath on the launch, don't know why :?, and when the train starts to roll back i start panicking on whether to hold my breath, or if i don't I wont be able to breath! :D

And i also used to hate rides like Ripsaw where you swing because of gravity, and the ride op only has control of the ride to a certin degree.

I think that it looks a lot worse than it actually is though and once you have been on it, it seems a lot tamer than you would of first thought.

I don't usually get worried on rides but when I'm going up Air's lift hill I always think "these restraints better not open", I know they won't but because you're facing the ground it always makes me think. :P

mines simple: I'm scared of Restraints, in perticular, lap bar restraints. I just feel unsafe for some reason, and even though I'm now "over" my fear more or less, it's still there, at the back of my mind...

I'd like to say I've actually overcome all my ride fears at this stage in my life - but I haven't ! The one type of ride that still gets my heart pumping every time, is a drop tower!

I feel a bit edgy on dark coasters sometimes, just because the image of the horrifically fatal Mindbender accident always plants itself firmly at the forefront of my mind throughout the entire ride!

I just get on with it really though.

So the facts its not a dark coaster mostly thanks to the huge windows at the frount and above that give it nearly as much light as some outdoor coaster and that that kind of ride is more usually found outside (think old magnum force at flamingoland which was the same ride) dont help at all?

I didn't say Mindbender was a dark coaster, did I? :P For some reason it's always that image I picture when I'm on dark coasters and feel a bit more vulnerable and more out of control - I think because to me that picture is so horrific, that mash those two feelings together and you have some paranoia.

I think it's also because in my linked image, it does actually look like a proper dark coaster.

I'm' pretty much immune to any fears of rides nowdays, but I also find the drop towers sets the adrenalin going. I guess it thats irrational thought that springs to the front of my mind that you may, just may only come to a stop with the help of the ground below.

Irrational, for sure, though I still ride them, though when it's heading off to the top, I wish I wasn't.

I feel a bit easier when the restraints have that clicky sound when you lower them...

I get really funny with restraints I hate it when they're just that bit loose, they have to be circulation cutting tight, I know it's still going to keep me in ifs a bit loose but I still worry.

Oblivions the only one where I always without fail think I'm going to die when you go up the lift hill and around the corner.
