Golden Horse Rides

Sat Oct 24, 2009 10:51 am

Just came across this manufacturer, Golden Horse Rides, in China... I can't believe they haven't been sued already!

Their SLC with the following trains :?

As opposed to the Vekoma original:

Then there is their spinning coaster:

With these cars:

Compared to Maurer's Version:

Oh and here is their Mine Train:

Again compared to Vekoma's version:

Vekoma & Maurer need to get on their case!

Broadly speaking correct. Though there are some copyright laws, they can easily be waived if the government think it will be of benefit to the nation. Copying the designs of foreign companies to sell in the Chinese market definately falls under this catagory. The Chinese company make all the money from the sales, while not having to pay anything for R&D, while NONE of the money goes abroad.

Interestingly, for their spinners they seem to be using Maurer's systems but with the Reverchon style layout. I wouldn't mind too much if they copied other companies systems and then tried to do unique layouts (maybe slightly less conservative in terms of forces than the mainstream companies), but most of them look like clones. That SLC at the top is just a copy of Kumali.

Kryn, didn't a similar thing happen when Top Buzz went to China? I hear they basically siezed the Mondial TopScan and a Chinese company just back-engineered it and started ripping it off.

Yes. It was impounded for over a year I was told, whilst the chinese made

"The Windmill" which was a exact copy of a Mondial model.

It's shameful, isn't it?

When you consider that TMi was threatened with legal action because we had a comedy version of Hole in The Wall on our show, (anyone who saw today's show would notice that it was replaced with 'hedge limbo' :P ) you have to wonder how the Chinese get away with this.

...Interestingly, Total Wipeout and The Cube don't have a problem with being spoofed. :?

I'm sure I have seen this company before. After looking at them I'm sure I found out that they are a company that has links to other companys (mostly vekoma) and produce the rides in in china for chinese companys, these companys aren't to be sued since they are possibly paying rights to the other company to make their rides in china.

There are no, known, Long Term side effects to the Marmalisation process, however short term side effects may include: dizziness, vomiting, loss of balance, loss of limb control, feinting, wild hallucinations but most importantly Smiles!"

If thats true, maybe I was a bit harsh...

Though, I think that it is these guys who ripped off the Top-Scan.

Among other dubious rides on show on their website...

There was a bit about all this in First Drop a while ago. The major concern they had is that these Chinese companies are just cloning the rides without the experience. So they just copy a part without fully understanding why it's there. This, naturally, leads to safety concerns.

They're at it in the car industry too; meet the Shandong Huoyun Noble:

This sparked a lot of anger at Mercedes so the company were forced to change the design..

To this

This is something that really annoys me. I've got no problem with China having its own industry and I know that it's cheaper to reverse engineer other people's products but please, use your own designs and show a bit of creativity. If this sort of thing continues, it could be a disaster for the entire Western economy not just the rides industry with our designs being stolen and sold to world markets at a fraction of the price it would normally be sold for
