Best Airtime Coaster

Wed Jun 16, 2010 10:48 pm

Right, well there isn't a poll for this I don't think, so I'll start one. This isn't a vote for best coaster, but for best AIRTIME. :)
There's a couple of UK ones in there but tbh, they're not much competition.. :P
Please say if you think any need to be included, think there's a decent amount there though, thanks :)

The Ultimate needs to be in there... seriously, it's mental on the airtime!

I think that Phoenix at Knoebels in the USA should definitely be included.

I was reading some reviews of it from people who were riding it last week, and one comment was that there is so much airtime that it is almost a stand up coaster  Which was my experience too when I rode it in 2008.

Needs Nash. Infact, get rid of the poll, there's too many choices to limit people to choose from a poll, there's too many coasters that will be unfairly missed out.

You're right, too many airtime coasters to include.
My best one is megafobia :)

I really don't know, I'll probably go with Nash, just for the raw, old fashioned madness and violence

Agreed. Also agree about the Nash, absolutely crazy waves of airtime on every hill!

I'm gonna say Superman: The Escape at Six Flags Magic Mountain has the best airtime, as it has literally 6 seconds of continuous zero-g. You really just float around for 6 seconds.

Oblivion has that lovely "floater airtime" hop before the brake run! Also shoutout to Goliath at Magic Mountain for a HUGE floater air hill after the turnaround.

I have been on allot of rides will allot of airtime, but the one that I feel has the most airtime is kingdaka, This has airtime from halfway up the incline to the start of the pullout from the drop on the other side aswell as the airtime hill with the brakes, more than half the ride is airtime!

Well if we're on about rides too, you can't forget the Tower of Terror. If it is just coasters then the first hill after the launch on Space Mountain. Big Thunder Mountains have pretty good airtime to be honest.

The ejector on Megafobia's second drop is fantastic. It's strong and sustained (if you're at the back). The Nash can be brilliant too for ejector (when it's running well).

However, both easily beaten by El Toro at Six Flags Great Adventure (some massive ejector airtime on that baby, and on most hills) and Bizarro at Six Flags New England - again strong ejector for most of the ride. Not surprising really as both are modern coasters designed for that.

But...

Nothing comes even close to Boulder Dash for airtime (apparently Phoenix at Kneobels tries when it's running well, but it was running badly the day I went and probably didn't even hit my top 40)... None of it is strong like Megafobia (where you are ejected to your feet), but it's just constant flying out of your seat, perfect, glorious airtime. Every hill, every drop, perfection.

The B&M Mega's are worth mentioning here too, but the airtime they give is very different. It's a gentle freefall feeling, which is nice, but it really depends on how much you get off on that kind of feeling.

From my experience, best airtime coasters have to be:

Expedition Ge Force
Insane Ejector Airtime in places, really fly out of the seat on the hills and incredible sensation. Even though the ride wasn't quite as good as the hype - the airtime was definitely there!

Silver Star
A beautiful B&M lean machine which offers constant floater airtime through the ride. In a totally different way to EGF, the airtime on the ride is exhilarating and fun - the first drop and bunny hops are just pure FUN!

Blue Fire
Quite frankly this ride, for a looping coaster, has unbelievable airtime. Coming up onto the MCBR, there's floater airtime towards the back of the train off the MCBR and over the "hump" whilst there's also some lovely airtime/hangtime (call it what you wish) on the Corkscrew and Twisted Horeshoe Roll. Then there's the heartline and... well... need I say more?

Speed
Although there's not constant airtime on the ride, and the restraints do not help - Speed's bunny hop is absolutely exhilarating and the airtime experience is amazing.

Notes must go out to Megafobia and Tonnerre de Zeus, both of which offer healthy does of airtime, the same goes to Rita whose airtime is underrated (shame about the restraints) and several other coasters which offer it including Oblivion.

:D

Im going to get slated for this, but the airtime on the bunny hop after the first drop on Colossus at Thorpe Park I always enjoy. Its about the only part of the ride does not hurt and you have almost a head chopper to boot at the same time.

Othe than that, the air time on Nash is superb.

El Toro has by far the most ejector airtime on any coaster I have been on. The ride op's really staple you in, and thankfully so. I'm surprised I didn't have bruises on my thighs when it ended! Amazing experience.
Expedition Ge Force is also impressive towards the back of the train, and I do love the floater airtime on the B&M Hypers with a loose restraint.
As AstroDan has mentioned, a credit should also go out to Speed for the insane bunny hop. If only this ride didn't have those tight Gerstlauer restraints that would be crazy!

Not at all! I love that part of the ride. It takes the ride (for me) from being a complete and utter piece of rubbish, to being "alright actually". It's a highlight, but it is like finding a tenner under a pile of dog turd

For me it has to be Megafobia at Oakwood as it just keeps on giving until you hit the final brake run

I was actually dissapointed with Megafobia. There wasn't as much Airtime or general Insanity as I expected. It's a great coaster I guess, just was a little over expectant of it I think!
