Your favorite Theme Park "land".

Wed Mar 16, 2011 6:17 pm

What is your favorite land / area in any Theme Park? :D

Mine is Main Street USA at Parc Disneyland (Paris). Because of the great happy atmosphere it provides and the excellent detail to theming.

Mine would have to be World Showcase at Epcot. A really stunning achievement, with an absolute smörgåsbord of incredibly rich sights, sounds, smells and colours. Unlike most other theme park lands which come across as pastiches or spoofs of what they're representing, World Showcase feels like a genuine, straight-faced attempt to give a flavour of each of the countries around the lake.

The attention to detail, such as purposeful mistakes in the Moroccan pavilion as Muslims believe that only Allah is perfect, show a genuine caring passion from the people who designed it, and it comes across as oozing character, even though what you're seeing is in effect, a fake. It has an 'soulful' atmosphere that I've only ever experienced elsewhere in cities such as Lisbon and Venice, not ever in a theme park before or since.

Always had a soft spot for Katanga Canyon, faded as it is.

Mine would be Main Street USA, Magic Kingdom. Even now, every time I step foot in, it brings back memories from my first time at Disney World in 1994 when I was 6!

Ooooh the memories! :)

Mine's probably Main Street USA in Parc Disneyland aswell, such a fantasticly designed area filled to the brim with period buildings, amazing details and references, not to mention the catchy "big band" music loop, a great way to start your day at DLP :)

My choice goes to Asia at Animal Kingdom at WDW. As with most of Disney its the attention to detail and the amount of it that goes in to the whole place that looks amazing. Plus I love the Nepal/himalaya style.

The most amazing bit of trivia for me is that from Morocco you can just about make out the back of Tower of Terror in Hollywood Studios in one or two places - so they themed the back of the tower to match the Morocco themeing! Now that's attention to detail.

In terms of atmosphere you can't beat Main Street in the Magic Kingdom.

In terms of pure themeing, then Asia in Animal Kingdom is very hard to beat.

Yeah I read that the other day! Stunning idea. I think they really really take care with high buildings, as they got burned in Anaheim a little bit. Although Disneyland is possibly the most perfect theme park ever invented, the fact that they didn't buy any land around it means these massive ugly skyscraper hotels have sprung up all around the park that you can see from the inside. It must really irritate the imagineers in Anaheim every single day.

I actually prefer the Main Street in California to Florida. The Floridian version is a bit too long for me, and although I prefer Florida's castle, it detracts from Main Street somewhat by always drawing your eye to your destination, and not allowing you to enjoy the journey. The Paris Main Street looks stunning though, with the master-stroke of the Disneyland Hotel straddling the entrance making in the grandest theme park opening since Alton Towers' lawn and ruins.

In terms of parks I've never been to, it has to be Mount Prometheus at Tokyo DisneySea:

It's the Dark Forest, even though it could be so much better, I just love the idea of the atmosphere.

Far West, Portaventura. It's a lovely area I think, while Portaventura doesn't have the most outstanding theming it is still pleasing to the eye.
