Just realised I've missed 'Tomahawk' from my ballot, shamefully, I would have probably ranked it reasonably high.

Looking through last years ballots compared to this years, you're not the only one to have missed a ride out so I wouldn't worry too much about it ;)

Depressingly, this hasn't changed since last year. Now that there are wooden coasters popping up all over Europe, I really have no excuse!

I wasn't going to bother but then I remembered I'd ridden four new woodies this year! Having not been on one since 2007 it was a bit of a shock to the system. :P

There is me thinking my Woodie count is poor, but actually it isn't that bad!

Oh well, many of us will have Europa Park's to add in April!

Last year the average number of coasters per TTF ballot was 9.7 (as in, 8.7 wooden coasters + favourite steel), this year it's increased to 11.4, which should hopefully make the results a little bit more reliable, especially as there are also more ballots than last time round.

My own ballot has only 1 more entry compared to last year, but next time I'm hoping to have quite a few more to compare.

...all four of which are new entries on this years TTF MH poll as a direct result of TTF trips.

The wooden poll deadline has now passed, so it's time to reveal the results from TTF:

Image

Now, I've taken the executive decision to mess with the top 4 a bit.  Going off the numbers, fav. steel should be 2nd, Troy should be 3rd and Balder 4th.  However, Balder and El Toro both had perfect records apart from a 1-1 tie with fav steel, a comparison Troy lost 2-1.  The difference in score is caused by Balder's riders having ridden fewer coasters than those who'd ridden El Toro or Troy.  Since that seemed a bit unfair, I've bumped Balder up to joint top - my poll my rules!  Making things more difficult was the fact that no-one who took the poll had been on more than 1 out of the top 3 coasters, so if you've been on any of them, it would help me a lot if you were to ride another one this year!

Elsewhere, the result for Joris is interesting.  Water beat Vuur 3-2 head to head, but they ended up with identical scores due to Vuur beating Megafobia 3-2 whilst Water lost by the same score - a remarkable result given that across all the ballots only 2 people ranked a ride between the two tracks of Joris (the other being Grand National, which lost to both sides anyway).  Wild Mouse has been moved ahead of Gwazi Tiger as the difference in winning percentage was small and Mouse won 5-3 on mutual riders.

Thanks again to everyone who took part - there were 3 more ballots than last time and 8 more coasters have made it onto the table (technically 7, as Joris had a single entry last time round).    Hopefully next years will be even bigger - and where will Wodan enter the table?

I am hedging bets that Wodan will go in at 4 or 5.

A great table, John! Sadly for me, although I have been on a lot of the coasters in the list, I have not done Balder or El Toro.

Typical bloody Intamin ruling with their poncy pre-fabs.

:P

Huge thankyou for doing this again John, it's clear you put so much hard work into it!

I hope that you'll continue this in future years. When the UK gets its next woodie (probably at Drayton or Mingoland), it'll be very interesting to see how the TTF ranking of it compares to the Mitch Hawker ranking, to see how much UK-bias there is on TTF. Will be interesting to see how Swarm and Wodan do in that regard (TTF/UK-bias) as well. :)

From what I've heard about these two coasters, I find it a bit weird that GY's Rollercoaster and Mean Streak both beat the mighty Mouse!

Great Yarmouth's Roller Coaster only had 2 riders take the poll though, so it's position is very subject to fluctuation.  It just takes one fan of a relatively unknown coaster to push it very high up the table when there are so few ballots.

This does seem to be a problem with the GY RC, which is silly as it's in the UK! Hopefully by next year, a few more will have ridden it to give it a more even-handed rating. Isn't there someone on here who literally ranks it as like, their favourite ride ever?  :?

El Toro is the best roller coaster in the whole wide world (in my opinion)!
I really want to ride Balder though, to see how it performs.

I would give my left nut to ride El Toro. <3

Though that's only because people I trust (Rob and Dylan) absolutely rave about it as their favourite coaster! Just going on looks alone, the Beast, the Voyage and Boulder Dash would all come higher on my want-to-ride list! (all woodies, interestingly...)

OFFICIAL RESULTS ARE IN!

Six Flags Great Adventure's "El Toro" #1 in the 2011 Wooden Roller Coaster Poll

Average Number of Wood Coasters Ridden = 32.4

RANK  COASTER NAME      PARK              LOC RIDERS W    L  T  WinPct TiBk

12 Thunderhead        Dollywood            TN  190 153  10  1  0.9360 32

Six Flags Great Adventure's "El Toro" finished its steady climb to the top in 2011, finishing alone at #1
for the first time.  "El Toro" debuted at #3 in 2006, finished 2nd for the next three years and then tied for #1 in 2010.
"El Toro" had no close comparisons among mutual riders this year, beating #2 "T Express" 14 to 8,
#3 "Boulder Dash" 98 to 70, and doubling #4 "The Voyage" 101 to 56.

Big surprise has to be GCI's El Toro in 7th!  Glad to see Troy also made the top 10 as it really is a cracking coaster.  Looks like the intamin's reign supreme for now, although Boulder Dash as always was not far behind.  The Voyage could also be up there competing again next year if the Timberliners finally get put onto it and have the desired effect!

Top UK entry was Megafobia at 32, and Nash was a respectable 40th :)

Nice to see the baby Gravity Group, Twister, debut so highly too, looks like a great little coaster!

Detailed list of the full results can be found here;  http://www.ushsho.com/detailedwoodrolle ... ts2011.htm
