I know very little about the harry potter stories, I know the name of the main characters and that's about it. I have no idea about the story lines.
I found the harry potter area was impressive, amazing themeing lots and pots of details. I was impressed with the forbidden journey ride. Loved how the video and movement worked together, the ride stopped on one of our rides and I got the chance too look about to see how it worked.

I think an expansion would be a good thing. I would be sad to see the lost continent go as I really like that area.

You don't need to know a ride story to enjoy a dark ride. Every dark ride is generic enough that it has an extremely loose plot. Good or in-depth storytelling is just not suited to the format! You couldn't turn an Alan Bennett play into a dark ride. Indiana Jones at Disneyland is my favourite dark ride EVER, and I've never watched any Indiana Jones films or have the faintest idea of the plot. I just knew that we were in a cheap going over a bridge of fire and I just thought "COOL".

Video from ScreamScape, with some technology that the rumoured Hogwart's Express ride could use...

Wet n Wild is open then.

Price depends on how you are intending to do it. Flights will be roughly £400/£500. Hotels can vary wildly from under $20 a night on international drive to a lot more if you intend to stay on site.

Park tickets also, remember Halloween Horror Nights is NOT included in regular park admission and you will need to purchase an additional ticket to visit the event, it also does not run on all nights so check before you book.

I must stress that usually doing a short trip in florida is not very cost effective. I usually can do two weeks for just under £600 (flights+hotel) around that time! - you wont save much doing a shorter trip, except for on park tickets.

We did HHNXXI last year. We stayed for 21nights in Disney and IDrive though so any prices I give won't be useful, sorry.

But, HHN is amazing! Not cheap but amazing! Would love to go again some day.

I went out for Horror Nights in October and it was good. The 3d maze was excellent.

I also went out for xmas and new year and this was totally busy. Mad in fact they were shutting parks by 10.30 as they were at capacity.

Jaws has now closed in Universal Studios. Apparently according to a guide we had during early visit to Harry Potter area, There are plans for expansion from IOA to Studios of Harry Potter with
a Hogwarts Express running between the parks.

Also duelling dragons, will never be the same again. Changed to Dragon Challenge there is not meet in the middle as the cars are now despatched at different times

They didn't stop it duelling because of the name change.

I rode it in 2011 as Dragon Challenge and it duelled then.

Universal Orlando Resort: General Discussion

Tue Jan 17, 2012 7:25 am

Mid-2011 there were 2 isolated incidents where objects where thrown/dropped from one train and caused injury to someone on the other train (majorly in one case- causing blindness). That's why the decision has been made for it not to duel anymore. I went last Sept and it wasn't as good of an experience as it was when I went when it was duelling but still an ok ride none the less.

JAWS isn't necessarily being replaced by HP Phase 2 but it's looking likely. That or Transformers (but that looks like its going behind the Simpsons). IMO HP2 would be a wrong move, by all means expand in IOA but don't make two lands in two parks (even of joined), I think it'll ruin the park. Plus, I loved JAWS :(

Universal Orlando Resort 2012 Line-Up

Sat Jan 28, 2012 6:48 pm

Universal have just released this video of details about ALL the new experiences opening in 2012!

which include the following...

Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular – 100 Years of Movie Memories is a new nighttime water show set to bow in spring 2012 in celebration of the studio’s 100th anniversary. Using projections, pyrotechnics, colorful fountains, and narration from Morgan Freeman, the show will pay tribute to some of Universal’s most iconic films such as Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, and Jaws. The Cinematic Spectacular will play all summer, and then on select nights through the end of the year.

Spring 2012 will also see the opening of the new Superstar Parade, which will show animated character from Despicable Me, Hop, Dora & Diego, and SpongeBob SquarePants on cutting-edge floats in a daily parade. The parade will also feature show stops and interactive dance numbers.

Replacing Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast will be Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, debuting in Summer 2012. The 3D adventures will take guests through “training” and then through an interactive dance party.

The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man is set to re-open in March 2012 with 3D, high-def animation, an upgraded set, and improved audio and lighting systems — as well as a special new cameo from Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee.

Also returning to Universal Orlando is the Blue Man Group, which will premiere a revamped show in February 2012 with “new show environment, new music, new technology and new experiences” as well as new interactive elements for the audience.

Hollywood Drive-In Mini-Golf and the Wet ‘n Wild water park new addition

Does anyone know when "Summer 2012" actually means for Despicable Me?

I've got a 6-yr old who loves Despicable Me and I've today booked to go back on 30th June  \:D/

As far as I know usually a ride opening in the summer would mean at the start of the season so May/June would be realistic.

Screamscape sources came through over the weekend with some new details about the controversial Hogwarts Express train ride that would connect the back of Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. From what I’ve been able to learn so far, which I was expecting to hear, the Hogwarts Express train ride should not be a true locomotive style train ride. There will be a locomotive and coal car, but purely for appearance’s sake, connected to a trio of passenger cars.

I'm confused as to what this will mean for the two parks. Are they to become one park with a single entrance price? Will the Harry Potter sections be a park in its own rights? Or can you only use the train if you've bought a ticket for both parks?

Also how will they hide the fact the train is travelling in a very tight space when the iconic scenes from the films always take place out in the country side?

It’s certainly an interesting project. The irony is the limited space is actually forcing them to be more like the books (London and Hogwarts being separated). But I see this as a very unusual move for the two separate parks to be brought together.

Maybe they will use screens for the windows to connect the 2 parks together, which will show the countryside.

It does seem like a good move for the park, as it will give them more money, but on the other hand, is this just Universal being greedy?

All I know is that I am going to go if this happens, no matter what my parents say...

Now we need a Harry Potter theme park like this, or even better than this, in the UK, the home of magic!
