Tussauds purchased Heide Park in 2001. Not sure about Gardaland.

Thank you.

When did they buy Alton Towers, Thorpe Park and Chessington then?
I used to think I knew a lot about coasters, but then I joined this forum.

Chessington has been owned by the Tussauds group since 1978 when the group was acquired by Pearsons (which already owned the Zoo).  Alton Towers was bought in 1990, and Thorpe Park in 1998.

I'm planning to go to Thorpe Park on a Monday. I know the M25 will probably be very bad during the early morning, which is when we will probably get to it :( . How long is it likely to take around there? How much time shall I give? We are coming from Birmingham.

Well according to this route planner it will take 2:09 hours to get from Birmingham to Chertsey. http://www.theaa.com/route-planner/index.jsp#fromNode=18260035674142%7CBirmingham,%20West%20Midlands%7CSTREET%7C407344%7C287229%7CtoNode=18260060423514%7CChertsey,%20Surrey%7CSTREET%7C503943%7C166515

So depending on what time you want to get there I would set off about 2 and a half hours before then. :D

Thanks :D
I was just dreading that section of the motorway at rush hour, don't want to get stuck in an hour long queue or something stupid, but I'm sort of expecting it. I think we're going to give 3 hours.

Probably for the best, although is the traffic really that bad at 7-8 in the morning?

From what I have heard, yes. Traffic starts building up from about 6am (?) and can cause some very big delays.

The M40 doesn't actually tend to get too bad before around 7:45am-ish, but the M25 is nasty around 6:30-45 onwards.

When you say nasty do you mean not moving at all or still moving but at a slower rate? We will get there during peak time :/

Moving but at a slower rate, but it has a tendency to snarl up really easily, with accidents or similar, and then you can be stuck stationary for a long time. Also, as I'm sure you know, rush hour is always much worse on a Monday, compared with Tuesday onwards.

If you're willing to try a slightly different route (and have a sat-nav for emergency backup!), I'd potentially suggest taking this little detour: leave the M40 at J4, and head south along the A404 and A404(M) (which can get quite busy around J8/9 of the M4, but not impassable. Then head along the A308(M) and then A308, and cut through Bray, Fifield, Windsor and Old Windsor, and on to Staines. That's the route (up to Windsor) that I take to work in the mornings if the M4 goes wrong, and I have to jump ship at J8/9 (I commute from Reading to Slough). It usually runs clear, and it'll save you M25 woes (just make sure you don't accidentally go on to the M4, which will also be dire).

Just an idea, works for me in the mornings, but I can't guarantee it'll work tomorrow :|.

Thanks for that! Might be a good idea to do that.
I'm not going for 2 weeks yet, the 28th hopefully.
Just another quick question. How busy is it likely to be on that day? I'm hoping not very because it's a week day in May but probably not as quiet as other weekdays.

Chessington-Merlin pass holdres get UP to 60% discount on the park's hotel. This suggests that some dates have a lower discount, no? If this is the case, then how do I find out which nights get the full discount?

I asked Merlin this directly but didn't really answer my question

My Saw photo cost £8 this year, and that was a normal one.

Looks like i will be getting a photopass as it works out cheaper to buy 5 pics than it does 3 seperately

also does anyone know if photos purchased using a photopass can get the free download on thorpepark.picsolve.com ?

Yes they do! And don't forget if you have a Merlin AP you get 20% off the photo pass! Great value!!

Do people reckon Thorpe will be busy over Jubilee weekend?

Am thinking about going on the Monday - kinda hoping the general public will be too busy waving union flags at street parties while I'm at Thorpe Park!
