Then we would have the whole 'Towers' theme stretching from the Dark Forest to X Sector. With Oblivion a great ride as it already is there is no point in changing anything about it at all. It would surely just make the ride more cheesey and we know what happens when you change a good ride unnessecarily (the Haunted House, Toyland Tours, Bubbleworks at Chessington)...

Like what has been said, I think X Sector needs a relaunch. New, better and more stylised theming to make the area immersive and an expansion of the bottom end to house a new ride in a moderately sized scale, using the Black Hole area. I am in favour of a name change at the least. However, the theme and atmosphere of the area should not be altered. :)

I like this idea of the ride bursting through the tent skin! Could be themed well with Oblivion and would look very good. What kind of roller coaster would look good with that style of themeing and where could the ride go or do after it has burst through the tent wall? Would be cool to get some ideas and present them to AT    Just Joking

Could a euro fighter work well in the tent? and it would link to Oblivion with the two rows and the vertical drop  Don't know if I would want a Euro fighter at AT but what other ride could be put in there?

I cant see the parking installing another vertical drop rollercoaster tbh. I think a eurofighter would have a boring layout if the park wanted to fit it inside the tent as there is a lot of restrictions of what can be done. Im guessing the park would go for a more compact coaster but im totally unsure of what manufacturer they would use...

Just maybe a bit of paint, or maybe make it look more like the apocolyptic/futuristic area it is, with added theming.

I would like Enterprise to go aswell but without it in the area the look of X-Sector wouldn't be the same. Other than Oblivion, its the first ride you see when you come over the hill into the area. X-sector would look rather empty without it IMO. The big wheel look would be missed in that area. But I would defo want something done in the BH tent because a good area is being wasted there and could be used to its full potential. Even a dark flat could be used in the tent or it could be extended at the back so that a new roller coaster could be added. It would be extended where the guests cant c it so that it gives the element of surprise for people as they would think the ride is quite short when it isn't.  But some sort of ride that bursts through the tent would look very futuristic and would fit well with X-Sector.

The reason the black hole still appears to be standing and wasting space is because AT cannot gain planning permission to develop the X sector at this time. This is down to the lord fella who owns the surrounding land complaining of noise pollution (also the reason you don't hear the audio at the top of oblivion any more)and has protested against development (the noise pollution is actually coming from the screaming Oblivion riders lol).

It is hoped to be part of the ten year plan once lord grumpy knickers gets over himself x

AHH, well the park employee i spoke to said lord but Chinese whispers are a pain ...I wonder if it was the couple from Farley Farm, me and a few friends ended up spending the night in their barn after my husband lost the car keys on Nemesis lol

No, it was a couple called...

[spoiler:2beqprqt]THE ROPERS[/spoiler:2beqprqt]

They sent Alton Towers to court three times, if I remember correctly. The damaged the fireworks event and Oblivion's drop with their silly complaints.

I recall seeing some rather important looking Merlin managers milling around last Monday (22nd March). Perhaps, given the fact *they* have moved, Merlin are looking to regenerate the area sooner than we all expected?

X-Sector always looks desolate in terms of crowds, and is gradually losing its 'futuristic' look (nothing futuristic about an abandoned tent!). However, Oblivion itself still packs an almighty visual punch and I do find it satisfying when I stand at the top of the X-Sector sign and see newbs gasp in awe at the shuttles plunging into 'Oblivion'. I just wish they'd paint it black!

Do they do park model Move-it 32's? :P

I wish!

As far as I know, only one was ever built, and is now in storage, rather than touring. :( I've always thought it would be perfect for Alton.

Re: X-Sector future

When I last visited during the Scarefest event, Oblivion and X Sector was near enough empty the whole day. The longest the queue to Oblivion got was 20 minutes, and even though the throughput on this ride is pretty good and is high capacity, this is nothing :P It just seemed to me that the crowds were all over Forbidden Valley area, with X Sector failing to bring any large crowds in.
So I thought, why is this? X Sector has a great rollercoaster and two semi-decent flats - how does it not bring in any crowds anymore? It is because of the flat rides, I believe.
Theming on Oblivion is brilliant. X Sector generally looks exceptionally themed, though gradually getting worseand more run down every time I visit. Enterprise has absoloutely no story behind it - why the hell is it there? I may sound like a bit of a perfectionist, but I find it hard to enjoy a ride without decent theming and a story behind it - that is what fairs are for.
The reason Enterprise isn't a *great* ride any more is because it is a common sight on the fairground scene. It generally looks out of place, with the white against the black backdrop of Oblivion. It still gets decent queues (It was about half an hour during Scarefest, higher than Oblivion), but it has been done before. Then there is Submission.. don't get me wrong, Submission looks great as a ride. The colours are nice, and the idea of two of them going at a time is brilliant. But they never use the second arm - whether this is due to technical disabilities or whatever, I don't know, but Alton should have the money to repair it and get it going again. But still, this ties in with the overall problem that it just doesn't get decent queues anymore. Also.. uhm.. what is the story of the ride? What is its point in being there?
The Black Hole tent is an eyesore. It looks old, tatty and generally run down. The queue line was still in sight when I last visited (they may have removed this), giving off the idea that Alton just doesn't care about appearance in this particular area.
It may seem like I am moaning, but i'm just stating what others have said about the area and my own personal opinions. If they want to bring X Sector back up, then I believe that they need to: Sort out the theming on Enterprise. Get something done with the colours and give it a reason for being there. It still brings in decent queues, and will continue to do so for another year or so - this wont last unless they do something about it.
Get rid of Submission. Despite how much I love the ride, and how good it looks at nights and when both swings are going, it really is just a waste of space. It doesn't bring in decent crowds, and it looks so run down and... generally not looked after at all.
Sort out the tent. Put a good flat ride in there with lights effects - strobes, smoke, and a ride in complete darkness with unpredictable movements would really be interesting, and could work incredibly well if they pulled it off correctly.
Touch up Oblivions paintwork, perhaps theme it a little bit more. IDK how you could do this, but it would just generally seem fresher and better.
Build a nearby food court sort of place - I really do hate KFC :P

What do you guys think?

SAVE KFC! i love it lol!

Well i think we will be seeing a new ride in the BH tent in the coming years, its not like they have forgotten about the tent. There is obviously a good reason why it is still standing and not been used.

Fingers crossed for a Alien themed scare maze and use the same que or maybe a new ride?

That would require a trench as deep as Oblivion's, and they are about twice as long as X-Sector :P

According to RCDB, Black Hole was 44' 3" high, so I'd guess the tent must be about 55'... maybe 60' at the peak? :?

Ah, thankyou.

It just gives us all a rough idea of what would be able to be placed in there :)
