New Water Coaster 2012

Tue Jun 08, 2010 2:40 am

Say Farewell to the Log Flume and Say Hello to brand new water coaster, this project is to be MACKS greatest creation is the UK and will start construction late this year, next year will see the last year of operation for the flume, sad to see it go after many years of good service. Expect more news in the future, no reports on theming or name so dont ask

Btw for older members I know i may have been very mis leading in the past and many of my posts were either correct or false, please dont take this too seriously but I have actually spoken to a reliable friend of mine who works for the development team of Merlin company.

Hmmmmm...

So construction will start late this year but the flume will remain open until the end (I assume) of next year? Seems odd that they would keep the flume open during all this time. Also wasnt there already plans drawn up for a coaster there but got rejected as the council said the lakes around the flume could not be built on?

Im not saying I dont want a coaster there, its just that it seems highly unlikely.

If this plan does go forward, they'd better keep the scary duck. I couldn't live if they got rid of it :(

Well personally, I haven't heard anything but would love this to be true!

Been wanting one of these for a while. If true, I hope it has a decent indoor section!

Pretty skeptical though, for the same reasons as Dave.

Hmm, not too sure about this.
I can't see Alton replacing their gentile flume ride with one of these. Whilst I do enjoy Poseidon at Europa Park, it is another step up on the thrill level which I'm not sure Alton would go for, and without the level of theming that Europa have added to theirs I'm not sure how impressive it would be.
Log Flumes for me are a staple ride for any decent theme park. It would be a shame to see it go completely. They should replace the flume with a new one, using a different layout and theming and perhaps some new elements i.e. backwards drop etc.

Erm, proof? :?
We all know Alton are very secretive about their future plans. I find it highly unlikely that they would allow a leak like this.

Nothing personal, but I'm rather skeptical about this 'information'.

Not sure whether to believe this or not because as Diogo said there isn't any proof and they wouldn't have leaked this. Just trying to think how Alton would be able to get a good ride with a decent drop like on Poseidon (although that drop is huge and wouldn't fit in AT's height restriction) and they would have to theme it well towards Mutiny Bay.

I suppose we will just have to wait and see. :P

I don't think this is true.

The Flume received a facelift not that long ago (in terms of a rides life time) and it still pulls in the punters in good weather.

What do Alton stand to gain from this kind of development...? A water coaster? They already have the Flume and more coasters than you can shake a stick at!

I can think of areas that Alton would see as higher priority! X-SECTOR, Adventure land?

I smell bull poo.

The Flume is on its last legs, but they are very limited in what they can put in the flume woods as they are protected. so i will err on the skeptical for the moment

Anyway, lets get back on topic... :D

Having been around during the original stint of 2006+PW back in the early days of 04/05 then I think I will take everything that has been said with a very large piece of salt. It is not to say none of it it true, as the Flume is more or less life expired, but anyone can come to the conclusion that it is likely to go sooner rather than later. But based on past form, I am inclined to think not, unless some proof is forthcoming.

If it is true its a good thing a new ride is on the way just lets hope its going to be themed well the coaster. I personally would like to see a proper water ride rather than another coaster so it could be themed brilliantly with MB.

I'm calling false on this one, how could it take so long to build a water coaster and if they were building on the flume site, how could they keep it operating? Also, it is a step up the thrill ladder and all parks need a real flume ride of some kind.

So I'm calling, and hoping false.

Looking at "2006+ Planning Worker's" previous posts I'd say this is a load of rubbish.

All I can really see happening to the Flume in future is just another re-theme, but then again I could be wrong. There's too many other areas on the park that need new attractions and some loving at the moment.

Have I read this the wrong way or does it actually say that he's joking?
Anyway, I think the idea isn't a good one - I love the flume even though it's a bit tired. And it seems fake in how he says the flume will stay open during construction, which doesn't appear to be possible.

I'm going to remain skeptical for the time being :)

If you think about the actual surface area between the flume and the surrounding area is rather big, the ride would have height restrictions of course, expect a kind of journey to atlantis kind of feel.

The Flumes life is well past, you can only recondition it so many times, its very costly replacing it so the better thing would be to either get rid of it and start an exciting new ride,

Water coasters do have their complications like their size and general upkeep, it would not be anything too extravagant due to all the wrong reasons but it would have its charm. theming is the most important aspect here, if done right it would be incredible, the coaster itself... well drops will be less than 100ft, expect a kind of colossus size and surface area,

Although I am the first to be skeptical about such rumours, ATA reported that Alton Towers were working with Mack on a possible Water Coaster some years ago. Of course, whether these discussions ever took place, or whether Battle Galleons was the result - who knows.

Clearly, with the reputation that "Planning Worker 2006" has - nobody is going to believe him!

And, for the record, 100' drops on a coaster at AT would be laughable unless it's buried and even Poseidon isn't that big...

:)
