Almost certainly Spinball, though it's not really a major coaster. And then Nemesis.

I don't consider Spinball to be a major coaster, so I voted Thi3teen. It's just the worst "major" coaster at the park, that cannot be disputed.

We had a similar topic a while ago, created in '10, I think. In rage of 13, it was very 13 to go biased.

Yes, it can. TH13TEEN blows Rita out of the water in the opinion of myself and, I'm sure, many other TTFers. I personally rate it above Nemesis, Oblivion and Air also... your opinion isn't gospel. :)

As for the next major coaster (well, listed coaster) to leave, it's a topic which comes up all too often, and it has to be Sonic Spinball, in reality. The thing is relatively new, but is known to be a massive mistake from the late-Tussauds era; the throughput isn't good enough, the theming is poor, and the monstrosity is far too close to the entrance. Following that, it's hard to say, but it'll be a good while before any of the others leave, that's for sure! It's hardly worth discussing at present.

I would say sonic but then, i would possibly expect them to move it elsewhere in the park (no idea where) but i think it will be a good few more years before they did get rid of anything major

For me personally, Rita is far more of a thrilling and therefore superior ride to Thi3teen. I know it has ended up becoming more of a family coaster, but the RMT is even more so and even that is more thrilling. I don't like the way it has been marketed as some kind of scary, adrenalin-fuelled thriller when it is the complete opposite. You can achieve higher speeds driving into the car park in the morning than on Thi3teen, I'm afraid.

Thrilling =/= better.

Personally, I think Thirteen is a far better coaster than Rita. And marketing is meaningless now it's been open nearly two years.

But anyway, the suggestion it will be the first to go is insane. It opened in 2010, 16 whole years after Nemesis. It would look pretty bad for the park if a ride the scale and cost of Thirteen came and went during the lifetime of Nemesis.

Nemesis is probably half way through it's life, so expect Thirteen to be here for many, many, many, many years.

You've missed my point. An opinion is an opinion. It can, by definition, be disputed. :)

Luckily Alton Towers won't listen to us when the decision is made to remove a ride! :P

There will be lots of factors such as guest satisfaction and the number of years in which the ride has been operating. When you invest many millions you aren't going to remove it until that investment has been worth it. When building a ride Alton Towers would have a break-even point in years before they can remove the ride,

Based on all that, I'd have no idea which major coaster could be removed next. Alton Towers doesn't have any awful coasters which are getting old and don't have good guest satisfaction ratings.

Either Sonic or Rita will go first. Both coasters were just plonked in any old available space.

Can't see Oblivion or Nemesis going anywhere for at least another 15 years.

None of the coasters will be going anytime soon, especially Thirteen as it's simply just recently opened. Every single one of those Coasters can attract a long queue, and will attract a long queue. Not to mention every single one of these attractions are loved dearly by the General Public, and by us (TTF) in one way or another.

But if we're focusing on quality, then I believe it'll be Rita that goes first, even though it's easily one of the most popular rides on the Park. So there's an argument for and against for any of the Coasters leaving the Park.

I genuinely dont know which to go next,

I would have said nemesis as it was the oldest ride - but then 18 years on we get a flat ride based on it, so that shouldnt be going anywhere for a while.

My next choice would have been Oblivion due to the noise isssue, but then alton decide to chuck SW7 in the area, so they cant be too concerned, so thats probably staying a while yet.

Air, Rita and 13 are all too new to go anytime soon.

I'll say Spinball, because its still the worst located coaster alton have built.

I don't get why people think this. Sonic Spinball fits the area like a glove.

What else would you put in its place, aside from some poor flat ride/s?

nothing, it never needed a coaster.

I know, lets build a great entry street directing guests vision towards the beautiful towers, around which the park is based and then slap a coaster at the side of it, to remove the impact of the view.
Also lets have the only visible coaster from the entrance the one with the poorest through-put, guests wont flock there as soon as they enter and cause horrific queues.

There is not a single redeemable feature for the rides location, and Alton obviously agree which is why it was marked for relocation on the MTP.

That's hard.

I think it is fair to say Nemesis's site is safe for a few more years yet. It's the heart of Alton, and the park realise that. I voted for Sonic, even though I agree its not one of the parks flagship attractions. I have just got a feeling it will be next to bite the dust; possibly sooner than we think once the sponsorship runs out. However, it still seems very popular with the customers. I blame that on the location of the ride, however.

Next year will be Spinball's 9th year. Surely that's been long enough? There are loads of better replacements out there. As soon as the sponsorship runs out I think they should replace it with something a little more... subtle! :D

BigAl, I don't think Sonic Spewball will leave just yet. The queues speak for themselves.

Considering that spinball has just got its new theme, it won't be moving, for a while, as much as we all want it too......
I used to think I knew a lot about coasters, but then I joined this forum.
