Re: RCT3: Nightfalls Stuff

As those of you who read the Fissure Lake topic will know there was a picture which was taken nearly a year ago that has recently been causing a bit of a stir. This picture in fact:

Image

What's so special about it? Well it may look slightly familiar to anyone who played through Portal 2. At the time I hinted that something may be going on beneath. It is time that I showed you. I'll pass you over to my friend Cave Johnson who'll do the explaining for me:

Panels: the planks of tomorrow

Excited now? Well don't get too excited. This is still a very experimental set and only the tip of the iceberg. This has been a year in the making and an animation nightmare but I finally have functioning Panels which really are as flexible as they appear.

There are a lot of issues but it's a start. Eventually I’m hoping to use the Panels to design a ride that will literally construct itself around the rider. Mental I know but admit it you want to see it  ;)

As of now the set includes:

Floor, Roof and Wall Panel's (no base)
Floor, Roof and Wall Mexican Wave Panel's
Floor, Roof and Wall Two Punch Panel's
1 Floor Panel which rises by a height of 2
1 Floor Panel which leans at a 45 degree angle
1 set of steps (still needs work)
1 1/4 size Crusher
1 full size Crusher from the roof

There is also a panel which acts as a door (opening to let trains through) and an advanced animation test panel but both of these still have animation issues.

Expect an eventual release but right now I need a break from the coding it took to get the project this far. Feedback welcomed, especially suggestions for other panel animation positions. Now that I’ve set it up adding a new animation sequence is fairly simple.

Driving School Version 2 is now available:

Download from Completely LEGOLAND Windsor

The Video

If you've been keeping up to date with this topic you'll already know that this set includes 5 new cars and an improved LEGOLAND Windsor Car. The set has also fixed a few issues with the original so remember to download it again if you've already downloaded the old set. just make sure that if you have a park with the old set already in use that you close the ride down before overwriting the files as you might have issues otherwise.

Thanks again to Islander for hosting the set  :)

Whoah...

I just watched the Portal video for the first time. The first thing to say is that the presentation of your videos (including the new Driving School one) is brilliant.

Secondly. The Portal set looks absolutely immense. Wow. I've long been thinking of making Portal: The Ride, but never thought it could be as good as this.

Gonna have to build a driving school in SC too!

You thought about getting these on SGW?

Sorry, can't comment. Too busy scraping my jaw off the floor and chasing after my eyes that popped out and rolled away.

I, I, I, I, I, I am, I am, I am speechless!

That is amazing!

Your work is fantastic!
I love the Portal stuff. The presentation and the way it works is really top-notch!

Are you planning on making some AT related stuff?

Thanks, I've been trying to give them the same consistent feel and been making trailers for all my custom content as practice. I still have one for The Ultimate lying around somewhere.

Thanks again although I must note it looks a lot better than it is. there's tones more to do before it even approaches releasable but as everyone now knows I'm working on a Portal project I had to announce it with style ;)

Diogo you must have some of the most creative compliments I've ever read  :P

Longy wrote:

No.

Several reasons why:
1) Everyone who can make custom content tries to make Alton Towers stuff. Besides Disneyland it is the most recreated park there is.
2) What would I do? There’s nothing at Alton that isn’t already available in some form or another. Remember that RCT is a British game so much of the in-game content was created based on Alton Towers.
3) Go back to the first page of this topic and you’ll notice I have done a few Alton Towers objects in the past, but only because I liked those particular objects.

And Project Towers are doing everything at Alton Towers so there's just no need. :)

Again amazing work Nightfall, your RCT3 skills continue to amaze me. :D

Long time no post  :)

I haven’t had much to show over the last few months. Progress on any custom content has been slow and most of the discussion has just been my ramblings over in the new topic at TowersStreet. If you haven’t seen any of my content before I suggest you read the first post of that topic as I’ve condensed down everything from here into one easy to read post.

There has been one bit of news I haven’t mentioned which was the release of:

The Swarm: A joint project by me and Fredward

Image

But I digress. The news I have today is the release on my latest CTR; The Narrowboat. This ride includes 3 different boat types; one standard, one covered and one with a canopy. Each holds 24 peeps and is fully re-colourable and with its own night lighting. The download link is at the bottom of the page and any feedback is welcomed.

can i just throw in a CFR suggestion.. Something i believe will be a great help and will be very versatile would be a single drop tower that is say one or two squares wide and can be built up attractions or walls. The one ride i really feel RCT3 lacks is somthing like Lex-Luthor DOD-or TheDrop at Hayling Island..or if we really go back..PepsiMaxDrop at Trocadero Centre in London, if say we had a 40ft,100ft,200ft,300ft editions it would really add an element that RCT3 Lacks. For ages ive wanted to make a huge hotel with say a Droptower on the side of it but with what you have in RCT3 its not really a viable option.  Obviosly its your choice if you wish to accept and if you do i would be truly greatful, If not, well theres no harm in asking =]

Until they build it I can't copy it  :P  That's the rule I tend to work by unless I see something that particularly inspires me. I'm not sure if I'll be doing anything for SW7 anyway, apart from the spider-like-thing (which has limited use) I haven't seen anything I can find a use for.

That's a good idea, which if I'd had a few weeks back I'd have probably already done it. There are quite a few drop towers out there but now that you mention it I can't think of one that only fits against one wall. The closest you can currently get is Mennoo_'s Mystery Castle but that is an internal tower with 3 sides.

I'll consider it for a future project but as it happens I have a plan for another CFR that is currently missing entirely from the game so I want to get that done first.

I don't know about Nemesis Inferno but if you're after the best B&M Inverted trains Old Spice is the guy you’re looking for.
There's a download from this post on Shyguy's World
There's not a lot of point for doing a custom one for Inferno as the only difference is the fire design. I've always found the in-game one does a good enough job.

Nice to see you again Matt. As it happens there are a few more pictures I can show  ;)

I've started working on 2 CFR's, one based on the Wave Surfer at LEGOLAND and the other entirely my own design. However making a CFR uses some proper programming which I still haven't worked out how yet. Until I do (and I haven't had time lately) these projects are on hold.

But the pictures:

The ride vehicles for the Wave Surfer operating in the game

Image
The Wave Surfer ride awaiting to be imported

Image
My own little creation (intentionally vague to not give the design away ;) )

Oh and I might have promised to release a new version of The Swarm when the reversed cars are revealed.

I quite agree... but if people want it who am I to deny them. I'll have to have a chat with Fredward of course but I see no issue cashing in on this. You should have seen the amount of thanks I got given on TST when I mentioned the idea in the Thorpe Park topic ;)
