Re: TTF Pet Mugshots

Thanks!
I've had hamsters, rats and rabbits die before. It's not nice, and it's sad - but it's all part of keeping "small animals".

The bunnies were always their own animals anyway and just used us as a source of food - they had too much freedom and didn't need humans for affection/company. We fed them, they made the garden look cute :)

The violence of the death though is harsh, and pretty devastating. I'm certainly no wimp, but it's one of the worse jobs I've had to do - probably ever - cleaning up the pen.

There's no way we can get any more either, we refuse to keep rabbits locked up as they should be allowed freedom (we've kept "free range" rabbits for almost ten years now without incident), but if there's a fox now in the area we can't do it. Madame_Furie says she can't cope with the heartache any more either :(

Get a house rabbit, ours moved inside when we saw a fox in the garden. Not that it would have been able to do anything, as dad had made the hutch/run area practically bomb poof.

We'd only had him a few months at the time, I don't think dad was too impressed that his hard work was practically worthless.

Boris, the black swan. He used to come and pester us for food in halls in my first year at York. Friendly, but scary thing!

And here are some cute baby geese who also lived in my college:

Last night one of my rats, Camille (the brown and white one), had a funny turn. One minute she was trotting about doing her ratty thing, the next she was in a bad way. :(
Her body was contorted round to the left, and she was dragging her back legs. Her abdomen looked like it was 'sucked in' below her ribcage... she looked like a half empty tube of toothpaste.

I took her to the vet first thing this morning. It could be anything from a bad muscle spasm to a mild stroke... it's hard to tell with such small animals.

She was in much better shape by this morning, but she's still clearly unwell. Our vet gave her a jab of Metacam (painkiller), and we have a course of it for her.

Sadly there's not much you can do for rodents other than that. Only time will tell. She could be fine in a couple of days... or this could be 'the beginning of the end'. :(

So I ended up being a couple of hours late for work because of the vet. Now I'm just worrying if she's OK at home. She's only about a year and a half old, and was in perfect health 24 hours ago.

Awwww :(

The thing people don't realise is how much character and love there is in rats. I always think of them as puppies that never grow up :)

Hope that she gets better Diogo...

I got home from work about an hour ago, and checked on Camille. I lifted her out of the cage and put her on the floor. She was not in good shape.

She lay there, twitched a few times... then just passed away infront of me. :(

She was the most affectionate rat I have ever had. Other rats would struggle when you pick them up, but Camille would just lick you hand. She was totally submissive to the others... she had no desire to be 'top rat', she just wanted cuddles and cucumber.

At least she didn't suffer long.

Really sorry to hear that mate. She sounds like she was a super rat :(
[size=90]For some things there is no rational explanation. There is no way out. There is no happy ending to this story. Welcome to the unknown. Welcome to eternal darkness.

Oh dear. :( It's horrible when a pet dies, having rats myself I can imagine it being horrific.

She sounded like an awesome ratty.

We got them out for their evening run around just now. Ezri just wanted to stay in the cage, Trillian spend most of the time sitting in Kelpie's hoodie, and Magrat and Lavya (Camille's sister) kept pinning each other down.

Bless. :(

Sorry to hear of your loss mate, I don't like animals dying at all, whatever species.

I've never owned a rat, but I know people who do (just the two [oo a rhyme]) and they are the cutest things ever.

Just like our cat, she too has gone to rest in peace. :)

I'm sorry to those people whose pets have recently passed away .

Here are two pictures of my cat Miko.

Here she is at three months trying to eat my phone for taking a picture of her:

Here she is at six months being caught whilst grooming or sleeping. She has a surprised look on her face:

Image

She is a tortoiseshell and was the runt of the litter. She was so tiny when we (me and my boyfriend) first got her but now she's a big cat and loves to take your seat after you've gotten up >.<

This is rapidly turning into the "dead pets" topic!

We need more pics of cuties that are alive and well to cheer it up a bit. (like charlie-chan's cat)
