Musical Guilty Pleasures

Sat Feb 01, 2014 8:17 pm

We all have those songs in our music collection which we wouldn't necessarily admit to liking or indeed owning... but here goes

O-Zone Dragostea Din Tei - I don't even like dance-y music!

Lots of Steps, including 5,6,7,8 and Tragedy.
It's cheesy, but cheerful and gets me through life when I'm in the mood for it.

I usually hate dance music but Martin Garrix - Animals is a great track. And I have to agree with Danny about Gold :)

Is it wrong that whenever I hear B*Witched - Ces't La Vie, I can't help but dance and sing along?

I think I'm the worst out of everyone to be honest, I've not disagreed with a single one of these songs, and actually own all of them

Cher- Believe might be the fave though :D

I totally forgot that song existed! I'm glad you just reminded me of it, as it used to be one of my favourites.

I've always tried to avoid genre-snobbishness... There's little I hate more in music than people who will subconsciously force themselves to dislike an artist - often without ever having listened to their music - simply because they don't match their own harsh (and often wildly inaccurate) criteria for their preferred genre, or because of some other silly social connotation that may come with being known to like them. I find that people who do this tend to be closed-minded, arsey attention whores; far more keen to rub their collection of merch from obscure bands "you've probably never even heard of..." in your face than have a vaguely intelligent discussion about anything. Hipsters, if you will...

I could literally go on for hours about the subject, but in short, I fully respect any artist who is genuine - regardless of the music they might produce (or whether or not I'd actually choose to listen to them).

Seeing as my own tastes range from Beethoven to Dire Straits to Cannibal Corpse and plenty in-between, singling out something I might consider a "guilty" pleasure becomes quite tricky...

I guess I have a strange kind of respect for Stefani Germanotta (Lady Gaga) - beneath the bizarre facade we all recognise, there's a real musician... Somewhere. Maybe...

I used to be like that a long while ago, then I told myself to wakeup and I realised that the music I listen to has its bad points, as well as other genres having good points.

I think what is classed as 'Guilty Pleasure' is songs, that you hate to admit to actually liking to your friends and family, but deep down secretly like them. I think that is what is meant by it anyways. And to me if I like a song I like a song, if I don't, then I don't. Doesn't really matter who does it.

I like Summertime Sadness by Lara de lalasplurgefancyname.

It annoyed me that during the summer, certain Radio presenters mocked her song by calling her "Lara lay Doom" and things.
I can understand as a happy-person who is happy at summertime, you don't want someone moaning.

But, in return, they should understand me, someone who is capable of feeling low and unhappy during the summer and when everyone else is apparently so full of joy.

More of a rant post than an actual "this is a song I like which no one else seems to" :P.

I really dig the Within Temptation cover.
